I reached a long time goal of mine today and that's to be able to start and finish a song in one day. I could spend days mixing but I was going for the one day thing so it's a rough mix.

Every time I sit down to Reason something completely different happens, so I'm glad to be at this point.

Sorry if it's a bit weird, I don't really know what I'm doing :comp:

Any feedback / advice welcome.

Congratulations to reaching your goal!
That bass gives the tune great energy, and the psy sounds do their job too.
The first half sounds great to me!
The second half feels like it's losing the pace and energy built up. I would love to hear some more progression in the second part!

Psy and goa are styles I really like.
Hmm...now you have inspired me to consider starting a new Goa tune.

Perhaps you'd like to drop this one to Discover? I'd love to contribute.

A couple of great Goa tunes&mix for inspiration:

Hi Jag

Congrats on making a track in a day. That is a positive achievement in itself.

The overall structure and sounds are good. As Jappe says, it could use some more flourishes at times to keep it engaging but you definitly achieved your aim and it could be published on an album as is with no (major) complaint.

:)

I dig it. Love the simplicity of the arrangement so that the different parts are easy to hear and differentiate. Cool song.

Hey Jappe thanks a lot for your feedback. I appreciate the constructive criticism and I will definitely take it on board and remember to not second guess the listener and instead try and keep it interesting and energetic throughout.

I really like that first video you posted, I have been trying to incorporate acid lines into psy a lot lately so it's refreshing to hear that. Wish we could access vocals like those in the song.

I have been into trance for as long as I can remember but psy is a little new to me. I still have trouble understanding the fx sounds and how to incorporate them myself, it sounds right to me when I listen to them in songs but I lack the understanding when trying to implement them in my own productions, not sure if you have any tips there. I also hear there are a lot of different psy genres which is a little daunting to me as I feel a bit lost there. I know there is a crazy super fast one with a tempo that feels like 200bpm I don't understand that one.

I don't have Reason 8 so no Discover but I'm more than happy to bounce stems or give you the Reason file (using a bunch of REs), shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Thanks again for your feedback! Here is a little gem I found, great to watch in HD, love that atmosphere:

@ Benedict, thanks a lot for your feedback it's really been a long time since I had any, it's much appreciated. Now that I reached this little goal of mine I see no reason to limit myself and try and rush through things, seems a bit silly actually. Thanks for mentioning the structure as it's something I battled with for a long time. By the way, I absolutely love your 'Feeda note acid' Combinator! :s0826:

@ the others - thanks also for your inputs! :comp: !

Rushing is not good but too often people prevaricate so much the inspiration gets lost in pointless detail and other stalling tactics. Being able to lay a structure (or any other part) fast is a good string to your bow.

Glad you like that Combi. :s0801:

Very true, the last few tracks I was working on became more and more time consuming as I progressed, to the point where they became extremely stale to me while still facing a ton of work, followed by a huge mixdown period it seemed like hell, by the end of it I would have completely lost inspiration, couldn't agree more.

Keep at it Jagwah :)

I know it can be pretty depressing to have to listen and compare the stuff you've just made to a track like The Prayer or Astral Projection :P Making good psytrance is a real challenge for your mixing skills in my experience. You won't become Boris Blenn overnight, but your track is a good start :)

Btw, this is the 'reference track' I usually use as something to strive for in psytrance mix-wise:

Near perfect production. Incredibly well defined low and high end.

Trying to nail that kind of bassline is a good start and will give you much satisfaction :D

This is good. It would also be good if it would have taken like 1 week :) . Psytrance is rather overproduced these days so it's kinda refreshing.
