Part 2 of my explorations with the Chenille BBD Chorus device from Jiggery-Pokery Sound. Plus, there's a patch pack  with several Chenille patch examples included. Check it out here: http://www.reason101.net/101-creative-r ... re-part-2/

Enjoy!

What happened to Rate Edit? It's a function explained in your tutorial and the Chenille manual, but it's disappeared from the device.

There's a button that switches all the mod knobs from editing the mod depth to editing the mod rate. It's the square button between the two LFO knobs and the BBD1 knob settings. When this is blue, you are editing the depth of all the BBDs. Click it and it changes Red. When it is red, you can now adjust all the knobs to edit their "Clock Rate" instead of their depth. So keep in mind that all BBD Knobs have two settings: Depth and Rate. This button is a toggle switch used to indicate which knob parameter you are editing.

Does that Make sense?

I went over this in the first part of the series, but it might not be completely clear. This section should probably have been titled "Depth / Rate Modulation" instead of "Clock Rate Modulation"

Clock Rate Modulation

Chenille features BBD Channels 1 to 6. Each BBD channel can be enabled as required with the BBD Enable button next to each channel number. Turn off channels you do not need to save CPU.
Each BBD can have an independent LFO rate and depth modulating the clock rate. Crucially, unlike other Reason choruses, Chenille features two LFOs per channel, one fast, and one slow, which in conjunction with correct phase offsets of each channel allows it to produce a true ensemble effect by mixing the two LFOs. The LFO waveform is not just a basic sine or triangle but is a mix of two different rates. These six channels feature two rotaries each that can be switched from adjusting the Modulation Depth to the Modulation Rate by engaging the Rate Edit button. With Rate Edit off, the top row of knobs control Slow LFO Depth, 0 to 100%, and the bottom row controls Fast LFO Depth, 0 to 100%. You can use just one LFO on any channel by setting the Depth of the other LFO to zero. So to just use the Slow LFO set the Fast LFO Depth to zero and vice versa. For ensembles use both Slow and Fast LFOs. For classic choruses you can normally just use the Slow LFO.

Thanks for the reply - I get what you're saying (I think), but my question had to do with the actual "Rate edit" button that appears in your tutorial and in the Chenille manual beneath the "Osc Sync" button. It's no longer there. I guess what you're saying it that the button has been moved in a subsequent update, and is now the button sitting between the Slow/Fast settings?

You need the latest versions. Rate Edit was adapted in v1.1.

Rate Edit is now the Fast/Slow Edit selector. Functionally it's still the same, but I think it works a little better linking the button to switching between Rate and Depth pages. Plus moving it allowed us to add the possibility of using two waveforms at a time.

Thanks Matt,
I forgot that was an update you made to the device. ;-)

I also updated the first Chenille tutorial on my website, to clarify it a little more. As far as I can tell, all the images I used on my website for both tutorials show the most current device, and the proper Depth / Rate switch.

Matt, you might also consider changing the tooltip when you hover over that button to read "Depth / Rate" or something similar. Labeling it Clock Rate Mode is a bit misleading. It's more of a "Rotary Mode" switch. Maybe "Depth/Rate Rotary Mode" if that isn't too long?
