Recently, feeling blocked on current projects, I dug through old unfinished projects and found this one from 2006.
Apart from the obvious compositional deficiencies and the lack of a complete arrangement, this sounds like weak middy mud stepping all over itself. I decided to distract myself with a palate cleanser: How quickly could I do a better job on the mix?
I didn't allow myself to change any of the MIDI or instruments or samples. I did allow myself to change effects as long as they seemed to have been applied as part of the mix.
I didn't bother to test the mix on different systems for mistakes like I would if I were "releasing" this widely. But I think this is still an interesting comparison since I listened to both these tracks on the same pair of headphones. (I also "rendered" them both with R12 despite the first having been originally built in some much earlier version.)

I can hear the John Taylor influence in the movement of the bass. Thanks for sharing.

That is exactly the element that jumped out at me when I first resurrected this project. I don't know if I was aware of it back in the day.mimidancer wrote: ↑04 Sep 2023I can hear the John Taylor influence in the movement of the bass. Thanks for sharing.
