More importantly, mastering! Any good YouTube links ? This is very raw and any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Interesting song. Where do you imagine this song being played?

It's definitely a reflective ending to an album type track. I love concept albums so going for mood with and looking back vibe. The sampled voice is a placeholder but has the strange I like.
It's rare I make anything this quickly but got a kick out of using a piano which is another rarity 😁

i dont think mastering is the key here. its more about the selection and composition of the basic sounds. just try to listen closely what fits together and go with it, it will save you a lot of the so called "mastering" trouble.

Chizmata +1

Totally agree.

I really like the structure and the fact of trying to make an expressive melody speak.
The sounds seem a bit too raw, too basic and don't necessarily go together.

but how can I explain it... I have this fault too ! :puf_bigsmile:

Cleaner and "smoother" WITHOUT any mastering :)

I think a big problem is banging into a brick wall with a track! Its definitely better to take a break, return with a "fresh set of ears"

What exactly did you hit? It's much better.
The sounds still seem a little cheap, but there's progress.

That's always what I recommend, but in reality it's more complicated than that !

For my part, I listen to so many different styles that I tend to amalgamate everything in my compositions.
You keep a rather oldies general cohesion,
either you make your sounds more modern, or you have to stay in the oldies.

The difficulty of coming back later on the track is that you will notice corrections to be made rather on the structure and the progress of the melody, rather than on the sound of the instruments.
Because when you get used to a global sound, it's hard to see otherwise.

I think you should try other sounds, especially on the chords.
The problem is that all of your sounds have to match.

For example, lately, I wanted to make a track imitating real instruments and musicians and I
used a clap in my drums which sounds synthetic and it's anachronistic.

Do not give up !

Thanks for the advice, words of wisdom, really appreciated.
Its a very rewarding "hobby" but alas highly frustrating and incredibly lonely at times.
Sometimes i wonder if being creative is a gift or a curse :)
Anyway all the best in your creativity onwards and upwards.
