Hey y'all!

I just released my fourth major game soundtrack. It's for a shmup/arcade shooter called "ZENODEATH." While it's still in development, the team encouraged me to release the OST ahead of time, so here it is! The entire album was produced from start to finish in Reason 10, making it the first major project I've completed with it. Up to this point I've mainly being putting out chiptune/chip-oriented material, so this was a bit of an adventure for me.

It's 20 tracks in total + 2 bonus tracks, and mainly features hard electronic styles like trance, DnB, and breakbeat. It's very much inspired by game soundtracks of old, but I've tried my best to put more of a modern spin on things this time around.

Hope you enjoy it!

Frenetic! I can totally picture the game that goes with this OST. Great sense of energy that would stress the hell out of me if I were playing a shmup (esp. track 5 there). There's also a nice variety of tones and textures on display, here. Nice work.

I actually saw a preview of the game yesterday on Shmups.com, looks pretty nifty. I haven't listened to everything yet but what I've heard of the soundtrack so far is great, a lot of variety/creativity but still very recognizable as a shump soundtrack. I'm always amazed at how shmup/arcade game soundtracks kind of evolved into their own more-or-less idiosyncratic music genre. I mean, how would you explain the style to an outsider...? Electro-rave-synthesizer-rock-jazz-techno? But it's still a coherent thing that is easily recognizable. Quite a feat that it managed to evolve like that, and quite a feat to make an album in that style.

Cheers! Glad to hear it's having the desired effect, lol.

I'd say shmup music has such an eclectic sound overall because there are simply so many of them. It's one of the oldest genres in games, and one of the most mechanically simple, so there's a lot of room for experimentation in all departments, especially audio. Back in the day there was a lot of competition in the arcade scene as well, with companies constantly trying to push the envelope with their hardware to beat each other out and sell units. That in turn meant composers had plenty of opportunities to strut their stuff and leave their own mark. No better way to get attention on a busy arcade floor than to catch someone's ear with a crazy melody, or surprise them with a genre they've never heard in a game before.

I guess it did end up being sort of a tribute album to some of my favourite shmups and action games, as well as an original soundtrack. :V
