Hey fellas!
Any industrial metal and rock fans around?
Here's my first attempt to be a one man band in Reason 8.
Beats by Dr. Rex. Chopped, cut, rebuild, transposed and eq'd.
Synths: A-List Electric Guitarist Power Chords, Predator, Korg Polysix, NNXT.
Put quite some effort in gain staging, mixing and mastering this piece.
Do you think it turned out ok?
Be honest. You won't hurt my feelings :)

The composition itself is good for what it is. I think the drums are your weakest link; they sound too programmed even for any kind of electronic track.

Listening on mobile phone speakers now, and I hear a big nice sound. I like what I hear, can't spot much of the drums, will check on monitors in a bit.

..and listening on Ultrasone 750 headphones now (don't want to wake up the cat :) )

The drums cut through the mix so good on that. The bass is prominent compared with drums which I assume is how it's intended to be.
Still sounds good, though I agree about the drums, there is a bit of a MIDIness feeling to it - perhaps some part of that is because they are mixed low compared to the bass?
Could be interesting to hear how it sounds with alternative mixes.

Not really a fan of the ripped off /sampled "Antichrist superstar" intro. Even the guitar/drum rhythm in the beginning is ripped off.

I see you wrote that it was inspired by Manson and other things but I personally just prefer to hear new material being made or at least hear old material used in a new creative way.

Luckily the song moved on to other things. The song as a whole is alright. As someone mentioned it sounds a bit midi like so you could probably try to humanize the drums and other things a little. I do that myself even for some of my electronic music.

If you want heavy guitar tones I recommend Kuassas Creme Amp. You can even send synths through it and will sound pretty much like a heavy guitar. Here's an example. Most sounds are sent through Creme, all of them are synths though, no actual guitars.

Hi Tritone,

I am surprised no one else mentioned the ripped manson intro earlier. 10 points bro!
One of my fav tracks of his, so i thought, f-it, lets pirate. Lol.
The intro was somewhat unnecessary cause we both know you can copy paste that intro before any track, right?
Furthermore theres no ripoffs in the song btw ;)

Thnx for your kuassa recomm. I am following a guy on fb who makes these sounds and I am impressed.

To have the drums sound as lifelike as possible I took a quite short rex live drum loop and did this:
- pitched up the snare a few semis
- Lengthened the snare’s tail
- Put kick and snare on diff gridspots on seq to get double kickdrums and ghostnote variation
- Eq’d them individually (with spider) to get more boominess and punch
- Everything with drums was not snapped on grid to get the human feel. Same with the gtrs btw.
- Kickdrums (esp. the doubles) I varied the velocity; again to get them sound live.
I guess I didnt succeed though. Lol.
Lets see if I can improve next project!

Busy,. Holidays - yes. I think the track is fine. Drums could maybe be a little heavier and maybe sound a touch less midi-like on the snare rolls.

I think the rhythm guitars sound good as well. I see Line 6 in the rack in the video. You're on Reason 8.3 also :)

That was pretty cool to see you used all Reason RE's and effects since the VST lid has been popped. I wasn't thrilled with the guitar sound but this is coming from a guitar nerd so please don't take that the wrong way at all. Everyone above posted great advice that I can't really say any better. It's all great info to help you improve on this track and any future pieces.

Keep up the good work. I'll be interested to hear what else you come up with.

In all this is pretty cool. Not crazy about the melody sound at 1:42 or so, almost celtic, but not in a way that fits. Guitars at breakdown at 2:20 sound fake. Also drums are weak, small. Needs a vocal or more melodies to sustain interest. Good stuff.
