A while ago I released a small refill for the polymodular system based on the malstrom. I've been messing about a bit with some new patches and made a demo song. It's not much musically speaking, and I didn't do a whole lot of production (eq-ing), just a sort of showcase for some of the patches set to a dub techno/electro beat.

I'd be interested to hear your comments!

Oh, and the original topic that explains what the refill is can be found here in case you're interested: http://www.reasontalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7490973

Hello Auryn!

I love when the vocoder voice enters and still sounds fat together with the rest of the sounds!
Some interesting sounds in there, very good!

Thanks for the compliment! I just *had* to put the "ELEKTRONIK" voice in there, it kind of defines the Malstrom to me :-)

This track has certain parts I really like, and other parts that don't really grab me. I really like the minimalist middle part at 3:08. Also the part before it at 2:44 has a special breed of insanity that I enjoy. And the lush part at 6:44 is really nice. I would consider filtering some sections out of the song and concentrating on the best bits. I understand if you want to make a longer track that takes you on a journey, and they can be great, but that was my impression.

Nice!
I know, this song is based on the repetition of a theme and sonic variations over it, but I think you should free yourself from the main theme…
It's a long song and there's space for changes, but maybe it's just a work in Malstrom, all in all, you did a great job.

Thanks for the kind feedback! I understand about the different parts being more or less appealing. I made this as a demo track so I have to admit there's a certain "hey, look what I can do with this synth!" factor :-) but normally if I make a track I take care to make it less all over the place. The lush part uses one of my favourite pad patches called "El Dorado", but at least half of the credit has to go to the F16 filter which is real nice and works great to tame the digital edge of the malstrom sounds.

Yeah, it's basically just the same arpeggiated pattern repeated over and over with different sounds. But thanks a lot for the compliment! Normally I make music with a friend of mine (he's the musical guy, plays keyboard and guitar) so other tracks will definitely be more varied musically.
