On my system it's possibly sound a bit too scooped or "smily face" for me. The bass is actually is overpowering a bit in places IMO, possibly eating up some valuable headroom?

The vocals are plenty loud, and surprised me a bit when they first entered. Or maybe it's the intro instruments that are a bit too soft?

In fact I really can't "hear" any of the instruments in many places; it's like the vocalist is standing very close, the drummer and bass player are next, and everyone else is in a wash behind them (besides the guitar soloist, nice solo btw).

There's no way I could qualify these points as making the mix sound good or bad, it would depend on what your intuitions are for the mix.

For me personally I would find some of the instruments to push up to fill the midrange out a bit. Those crunch guitars on the chorus will drive the song if you let them!
I think you got most of things to correct on my list.
The Bass and Verse Vocal being a tad to loud.
The solo guitar should probably go up a bit or that is just the feeling compared to the verse vocal next to it.
And yes, a bit more prominent guitars in the chorus.
Problem was that there was to many instruments fighting in same EQ range.
One up, some disappears...

Had a lot of fighting with eq on different instruments in this song.
More air on the drums made the vocal need more treble as well and everything was a big "esss" in the end.
I think I re-did the mixing from scratch probably 5-6 times because I got further and further away from how I wanted it.

I have learnt a lot coming so far though..

Thanks all for listening.<img src="/images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif" alt="[thumb]" class="emoticon bbc_img" title="Thumb - :thumb:

I am digging this!

I just started on the first song, and it sounds pretty well balanced. The vocals come through pretty clear and the guitars shine right through. Love the gated things in background.

Great tracks, well balanced EQ.

I would probably very slightly lower the subs a bit on the second track (personal taste).

Fantastic singing voice! Some perfectly-done classic rock. Reminds me of the band Boston! Really enjoyable listening!

Both tracks sound good.
Breaking the silence sounds like it should be in a movie transition where someone is getting over something, realising something or conquering something.

This song was initially written to my former (80ies) band that last year started to talk about a reunion.
The song was made to sound as we did but with a bit more modern touch. Hence the 80ies feel to it.

The lyrics was with the bands history in mind. Both bad and good memories.
The most popular song we had at that time was a song called "Breaking Away"
and the drummer suggested the title for the first new song to "breaking the silence"
As we after so many years break the silence....
All lyrics below:

I remember all the good times baby suddenly they all fade away
The things we said, the things we did
It was the only way
And how long can we leave this bad behind
And listen to the voice we have inside
Breakin the silence
With your inner voice
Breakin the silence
We will be back for more
Breakin the silence
And we'll be here for good
Breakin the silence
And I feel alive

We were blinded by confusion, like children scared of the dark
We will find the way together
If we only find the spark

But since some members did not fancy the idea of a reunion I made the song with a friend instead and it worked out well and we started "Two Far Out"...

Unlike the last time I tried, this time I was able to listen to the song. My ears aren't refined enough to comment on the mix, but I dig the song. Very solid melody for a rock tune. Not too busy but not at all derivative. Lyrics also very good. Nice work.
