Just got the link sent to me.

I did all the music and the bulk of the vocals except for a couple of melody passes they recorded over mine in Russia. They recorded the spoken voice over too:

What's cool is I don't speak any Russian. I laboriously worked to get the right phrasing for the lyrics.
Kinda psyched it made it through! :)

It seems they recorded at least one extra vocal on the melody over the top, maybe him? I don't know.
But my melody, harmonies and ohohohs were all in a stereo stripe I sent them, and they're in the mix.

I'm chuffed, I worked really hard on the phrasing. :)

Very cool!  Congrats!  Sounds great!  Are you allowed to share with us the song without the voiceover/additions?  Or are you prevented from doing so?

Probably not a great idea... I'll need permission. But I sent you a passworded video with the song in the clear. Check your PMs. :)

I always thought it was this guy :)

I don't want to say bad things about the clip, but it's sad to see such a magnificent piece of music reduced to a pop loop.

No, he composed the melody, I did the music - arranged it, performed it, recorded it. It's my music and his melody. It's not "reducing" his composition at all, it's just a commercial bro. To enjoy his music listen to his music. The commercial exists to sell a drink. Let's not get all precious about it.

But I was still able to make music. I was still able to be creative within the parameters given to me and I enjoyed the challenge of creating some music under his melody and singing in a language I don't speak. And there are no loops used btw, it's all midi-triggered drum samples, bass guitar, guitars, keys played in. No loops.
So why piss on the parade man? I was just sharing some happiness. I won't bother in future.

Lunesis feel free to delete the thread. Cheers.

Don't let the grumbling of one get you down. :) You did a great job on this - I have a very difficult time keeping a song restricted to the 3:30-4:00 "standard" length - always inspiring to hear a composition that feels "full" in the :30 slot afforded most commercials. I can barely write an intro that falls under :30!

Please accept my apologies, no offense was meant. Just quoted the original work.
I could apply it to myself as I too have had a sin of covering the classics.

Yorick, technically if you didn't change anything in the melody, then it's still his music. It's your arrangement, your production but his music.

For example, All by myself has a full chorus that is not part of Rach's concerto.
Sting's russians, has a section with a different melody.

Anyway, as i said and since there isn't any copyright infringement (i still think credit should be given), i don't see any problem. Great work as usual!
