I've been hard at work on the soundtrack for the mobile game The Incredible Baron coming out this year from FlatRedBall. The game has a cartoonish, SNES-esque vibe, and I've taken a similar path with the music.

I haven't obsessed over authenticity to the SNES's limitations, but instead taken inspiration from the types of sounds and styles found in SNES games, and applied them to my own ways of composing. What I've ended up with are a bunch of 2-minute songs jampacked with as many melodies and musical ideas as I can stuff them with!

It's been loads of fun to work on, and I've written over 20 pieces for it so far. Here are two of them, the opening theme and one of the jungle level themes:

Wow, great work esselfortium! I'm inspired by a lot of video game music from when I was younger so I know how important video game music can be.

It can really shape someones life. Your work sounds instant-classic, auto-memorable.

Thanks so much for the kind words! I've occasionally had my worries that the songs might be too complex to be easily memorable, so that's exactly what I needed to hear :)

The developers finally put up a kickstarter for the game today, btw. There's a whole lot more info on the project there!

My favorite part about the indie game scene is the incredible music being produced for it.

...like yours. Love it! Thanks for sharing. Now over to Kickstarter to support this!

I love the beautiful vivid colors and the SNES looking graphics. It brings back such memories. And the music is great! I'm loving the steel drums! This is coming out sometime in May 2015 right?
