My latest release. Heavily inspired by Gary Numan! I’ve been wanting to try a chorus-less track for a while and this one just popped out of a bass groove I was messing with.

Software: Reason 13 + Objekt, Vintage Vault 4, V-Collection 9 + Pigments, Vintage Verb + Supermassive
Hardware: M1 Mac mini + dual monitors, Launchkey 61, Scarlett 18i20, Rokit 6 monitors, AT4040 mic, DT-990 Pro phones

You’ve definitely captured the Numan sound. Got a hint of Cars in there if I remember rightly. There’s something I can’t put my finger on that I want to suggest for the vocal, like just a smidge of chorus or saturation maybe. I’m thinking only something subtle as for me it’s a touch clean/dry. Not that that would make it any more or less Numan, just a personal preference when I listened through!

I’ll have a listen again later when I can crank it up a bit and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for listening. I’ve been struggling with my vocal chain and trying different options. This does have a chorus on it (on a send so it can be blended in, but perhaps too low). It also has a short a long reverb + a delay, so a variety of spice. :)

Ok, now I’ve had another listen at higher levels I can hear the vocal effects more clearly, they are noticeable but subtle. I’d personally edge them up a tad. I think a bit more detune from then chorus might really suit this style . And little more reverb might just make it sound fuller.

Also, I somehow didn’t process the outro on the first couple of plays, I like what you’ve done there.

Thanks for the feedback. I’d wrecked an earlier mix with too much reverb so I dialed it back… maybe too much?

I like the track. Sounds really good. Yep definitely reminds me of "Cars".
The only thing I'm missing is something that fills the role of a bass guitar. Doesn't have to be a literal bass guitar, could be a synth bass. Just something that fills up the bass register with root notes underneath the saw bass riff. That's my take anyway.

It has that back to the 80's sound. Kinda very flawless production from the beginning to the very end. The sound is clean and raw and suites this style of music well.

I also posted a new song if you care to check it out " Filling My Mind".

Cheers!

I did put a Monotone sine wave bass under the saw to beef it up, but perhaps a smidge low in the mix?
