Hi all, this is the very first song I ever wrote :) About a year ago, we saw Pseudo Echo (a 1980s synthpop band who I loved back then) perform live, and I said to Benedict that I would love to be able to try to write something like that. He nodded and smiled and expected never to hear again. About six months later, I was facing life's changes with my eldest daughter in her final year of high school and starting to move on to live her life in adulthood. It all made me reflect on change and time and how life will always move on, whether we're ready for it or not and then this song popped out the other end of that 🙂

Note you may have heard an earlier version I shared on RT many moons ago, but this is the final version after re-recording the vocals. It will be the opening track on a new self-titled EP that will be coming out very soon. There's no AI and no autotune on this or any of my songs.

On the Technical side:
Jane has R+ and I of course being old and ever-so-tough use Reason 13.1 thank you very much

Jane moused her chords and vocal melody at her workstation (desk) and we carried that to my studio (which also has a desk - but a better one) and laid a guide vocal. I then worked on making the full arrangement and (much cooler) sounds - actually, a few of the presets Jane used were from my ReFills so they were amazeballz already. A couple of alterations (and newer songs) later Jane came back in and we laid this vocal and I mixed it all down.

The first song Jane ever wrote and sung became the lead song for her EP (which is having ht lest adjustments made to when I stop typing this).
Yay Jane (and me of course for getting her there as she was determined to make all the usual mistakes dark-fear mindkills people into the grip of).

Gearlist (because I know people are more interested in these than the song):
Jane:
Alienware i7 Win 11 PC
Reason+
Yamaha PSR (I disdain to mention a model number seeing it is a PSR)
UAD Volt 1 Audio Interface
Technics Class AA Amp
Mission 72 Speakers

Benedict:
Dell XPS i7 Win 11 PC
Reason 13
Nektar Panorama P6
Audient EVO4 Audio Interface
Behringer XM8500 Dynamite Carrot-oid mic
Rotel A-10 Amp
Jamo C-803 Speakers

:-)

Nice song and congratulations on your EP.
Love the 80s style synths and the vocals sound very nice, especially without any tuning involved.

+1 for the UAD volt. I have the 176 and love this little interface.

Thank you! With the vocals, I preferred not to lose the "humanity" in my voice using things like autotune, plus I prefer a genuine performance. I was more or less in tune anyway, which I was very happy about given my complete lack of singing experience.

This being my first song is perhaps not as developed melodically as the other tracks on the EP, but it stands up pretty well so I am pleased with it all :)

The Volt 1 is a great little interface, it just works. :D
