Hello Reasontalkers
Here is a dubby remix I did for God of Rainbows' track 'Thousand Ring Circus'
The original track was composed as a demo track for my Europandemonium refill
You can buy the refill on Gumroad here: https://gumroad.com/l/YxIGB
Thanks again to God of Rainbows for his excellent track!

Excellent production. My favorite part of this project is that suspenseful bridge that happens in a couple of spots.

I love it! It's a whole new song. You really transformed it. And like some of your other remixes, I like it as much or more than the original. Great drums. And those delay effects toward the end are nice. What is the sampled voice saying?
Thanks for deeming my song worthy of a remix. It sounds great!

Thanks for listening and for the compliment! I actually tried to put the bridge right at the end as well as a kind of coda but it felt a bit contrived.rabidonthetrack wrote: ↑24 Jan 2021Excellent production. This track was actually quite easy to remix, it was already an interesting composition so I kept most of the melodic structure of your original and added some dubby fx + outro. The voice says "They can never never conquer Jah" (I tried to replace 'Jah' with 'God of Rainbows' but too many syllables )TheGodOfRainbows wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021I love it! It's a whole new song. Your songs are worthy of remixes for sure. I know because I have them.

I'm listening with a more analytical ear today and I love the low end of your mix. Great work with those lower frequencies.

Understandable about the surplus of syllables in my name, it's cool that you tried.Auryn wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021Thanks for listening and for the compliment! When you started the remix, did you try other styles, or did you jump right into a dubby feel? It feels right at home here. Really brings my song to life.

Cool! Thank you!rabidonthetrack wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021Your songs are worthy of remixes for sure. I know because I have them.
There really isn't that much to the low end, it's just the Zion Bass patch from the refill slightly driven by Devil-Loc (soundtoys), hipassed to kill the really low rumble and sidechained with the kick. Keeping the rest away from the low end is where the work was LOLrabidonthetrack wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021I'm listening with a more analytical ear today and I love the low end of your mix. Well I like dub so I always kind of default in that direction. Your style in this song is actually an interesting foil for mine, was already kind of dubsteppy but in a cerebral way. Adding in some reggae elements like the skank, horns and the steady bass was a way of putting some 'roots' into the mixTheGodOfRainbows wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021Understandable about the surplus of syllables in my name, it's cool that you tried.

I had originally envisioned a mix that was even closer to the original composition, only produced differently (heavier), but found that it became too dark so I chose a slightly more upbeat approach

I'm picking up on the great mixing of delays today, particularly with those delicious percussive rolls, and we're going deeper into the mix on day three.
It's easy to disregard the attention to such details when we're looking at genre labels but listening without expectations is key here. I'm not even really into dub that much but I'm able to identify some core elements.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Dub really is more of a technique or mixing style than an actual musical style these days I think. As far as delays are concerned, I can't recommend Soundtoys' Echoboy enoughrabidonthetrack wrote: ↑26 Jan 2021I'm picking up on the great mixing of delays today, particularly with those delicious percussive rolls, and we're going deeper into the mix on day three.

Yeah yeah! the delays, the 'percussive rolls'! Love it. Track really breathes because of it.rabidonthetrack wrote: ↑26 Jan 2021I'm picking up on the great mixing of delays today, particularly with those delicious percussive rolls, and we're going deeper into the mix on day three.

And btw, I officially like the mix of your remix better than my original mix. I have much to learn in that area, but man I try.
Dude if you need some feedback or advice mixing a track, or you wonder how I did X or Y I'd be happy to help, just drop me a PMTheGodOfRainbows wrote: ↑28 Jan 2021Yeah yeah! the delays, the 'percussive rolls'! Love it. Track really breathes because of it.

Your remixes always turn out great and have your own sound/style to them. I really like the darker/moody-er ending portion of this song. I agree with the others, nice use of delay too. I tend to slap my own hand when using delay because I can easily go overboard without realizing it. I won't even bother mentioning how many delay pedals I've got stored in a drawer. Meanwhile there's only one on my [guitar] pedalboard.
Sidenote: I recently upgraded to Reason 11 Suite. This is a good reminder to check out the refill of yours I couldn't use because I was still on version 9.5.
