* EDIT: Now I'm not so sure that this was the Alt Drums series. All I know is that the refill is called "Validus Pack 1", and the meta data has Ryan Greene's website and the Alt Drums tag.

Original post: Greetings peeps! So, about 13 years ago, Propellerhead (Reason Studios) gave away a set of Refills for free by Ryan Greene (the Alt Drum series). I have Validus Pack 2 and 3, but Pack 1 seems to have gotten corrupt - I can't access it. Tried restoring it via my cloud backup, but even that said the file was bad.

Anyone happen to have a refill called "Validus Pack 1" laying around that they'd be so kind to share with me? And before anyone asks, these were given away for free by Propellerhead in a joint promo, so it's all good. Looks like Ryan's website is no more and not sure what he is doing now, but he certainly isn't maintaining his Altdrums.com URL for music content anymore.

Cheers

I remember paying for them - here’s the quote I found online below the stuff you already posted:

Pricing and Availability
Ryan Greene Alt Drums Volume I, II and III are available immediately exclusively as downloads from the Propellerhead online shop for $99.00 USD and €89.00 EUR (including VAT) each.

I didn't. Got them all for free. Pretty sure there was some sort of limited promo at the time. Anyway, can you take at look at yours and tell me if the three refills are actually called "Validus 1", etc? Because I don't have any refills called "Alt Drums".

The actual titles are Validus Pack 1-3. Never understood that naming convention!

These are the types of samples that are what they are. Being so processed, you can't really do much more with them in my experience. This is not a bad thing, but I'm used to more flexible samples that can take EQ and compression to 'bend' them towards different goals, which make them more useful to me. But that's me, someone who is used to having to "work" the drums, coming from the engineering/drumming side of things.

It's great to have "ready to wear" drum samples, but only if they already fit the person who is wearing them! I've got more mileage out of the packs from Loop Loft and others that offer more flexibility.

And for the record, getting them for free is different from them being free, or Propellerheads giving them away for free. They were a paid ReFill according to everything I remember and everything I can find online. Maybe the free version was for Drumagog? (nope, looks like that was paid too: https://drumagog.com/product/18).

Not saying you didn't get them for free, just saying they were not free for most folks! Maybe you got them in return for testing? Could be Mandela effect?!? ;)

In My Account - My Products - Refills I have the refill "Ryan Greene Alt Drums Volume I". It is 2 GB big and still downloadable.
Nowhere is there the word Validus.
I can't remember where it comes from and when, but for sure it wasn't free.

Thanks for confirming the actual Refill name. It appears that the name comes from his studio (where he likely did the recording), which was (is?) called Validus Recording located in the NoHo art district of North Hollywood.
