Hey everyone, I’ve created a Combinator Patch for a Ring Mod Sidechain setup in Reason 13. The goal was to achieve a clean result with no peaks exceeding 0 dB and no additional latency.
After some testing, I found that only the paid Rack Extension CMD Equation Math Module could achieve this. You can find it here:

I also tried using native Reason devices like Thor, but the peaks remained an issue. The free KHS Rack Extension for ring modulation added unnecessary latency and still caused peaks over 0 dB. Using the CMD Math Module, I was finally able to create a functional Combinator Patch that works perfectly.

There was already some discussion about Ring Mod Sidechain in this thread:

To show exactly how my combinator patch works, I’ve created a video. Check it out here:

Just a small addition. I just realized that it’s not necessary to connect the kick bus to the audio splitter via direct out. Where the kick signal is once passed dry to the merger part and once into the math modules. It’s also possible for the kick bus to go directly to the math modules via the parallel out. During my initial tests, this somehow didn’t work back then, and there were peaks above 0dB. The only important thing here is that there must be no sample delay anywhere, as Reason unfortunately cannot compensate cleanly for this everywhere via the PDC.

Too bad that Reason Combinators don’t have a sidechain input. So the routing would be much easier.
