Lectric Panda and Joseph Schillinger

The past few months I've been doing a deep study of Joseph Schillinger and the Schillinger System of Musical Composition. It is a pretty fascinating thing.

I've used it for the basis of generative software I've been working on. The output is quite musical. It generates scales, chords, chord progressions, accompaniment, melodies. I've also adapted the techniques to generate regroove files.

The link below is a dump of 100 different runs. You can bring them into reason and replace the devices and play around. Find a nice 4/8.16 bar section and loop it. Find a few more sections and chop them up. Add some beats. Add some regroove.

...A thought just crossed my mind....A player groove device? Like the regroove mixer and control tab, in one device?

Well this sure is fun.

Seems like a deep rabbithole, this Schillinger system. I've enjoyed playing around with these midi files, thanks.

Are the regroove files generated based on this system? I'll have to wait til next week to watch some videos and get some understanding.

It uses the system in a new way. Schillinger had a method for generating melody where there are axes running away and toward the root note to create tension and release. I've taken that idea and applied it to the groove drifting away and toward straight time. I've also applied that to velocity and legnth, where the closer you are to straight time, the stronger and longer the attack.

Just want to post this here, to make everyone aware Lectric Panda turned these files into a player. It's amazing.
