Come one, come all, ye sonic adventurers! Quixotic Sound Design is back with a new refill for the Oberon synthesizer called "Orkestrial Obersounds"

Zvork's Oberon is one of the most forward-thinking synthesizers available for the Reason rack. It's conception of additive synthesis is unique in that it straddles the boundary between harmony and dissonance, and allows the user to navigate freely between sonic order and chaos with only a few key controls. A simple turn of the knob may send you flying from the safe and sane musical universe you know straight into the gaping maws of Tiamat, and get you back again before the wretched beast can even start salivating! Indeed, equipped with this synth, one does just walk into Mordor - and out again, without so much as taking an arrow to the knee.

Now, easy as though this synthesizer may make it, many would deem it ill-advised to so freely invite the forces of entropy into any musical endeavour of repute. But because we're all life-long Cthulhu worshippers at Quixotic Sound Design anyway, we thought we'd give it a shot, and we've come up with a collection of patches which will awaken your musical imagination, even as it gleefully gnaws at your sanity...

- A veritable Necronomicon of noise, with over 300 device patches, including polysynths, monosynths, percussive sounds, FX, pads, plucks and sequenced sounds

as usual, the focus is on polysynths, divided into 4 categories:

- Orkestrial: a variety of sounds that balance between orchestral and metallic timbres, a style unique to Oberon
- Mellow & Atmospheric: tranquil sounds for dreaming in r'lyeh.
- EDM keys: traditional and contemporary synth key sounds
- Abstract and Miscellanous: experimental timbres and bizarre modulations

- special attention has been paid to velocity sensitivity, for expressive and nuanced playing
- refill also includes several custom made wavetables

Please check out the demo tracks below for an idea of what to expect:

Special thanks to reasontalk users Strangers and TeflonTomb (aka Modecca) for their excellent contributions.

There are a lot of sounds in this refill that sound insane, simply holding one note down.

Congrats on the release! I wish I was able to have shown off more presets as well as modecca did. There are seriously tons of powerhouse patches in here. Easily some of the best and strongest metallic-y sounds jammed into one refill. I'm still amazed at the number of patches and the fact that each of them have such attention to detail. Don't miss out on this one, guys.

Thanks for the words of support, fellas!

I forget to mention that if anyone wants to check out some patches for themselves, the Oberon 2 factory sound bank actually includes 25 patches that were originally destined for this refill. Zvork was kind enough to buy them off me shortly before the V2 update was released. You can find them in the Oberon factory sound bank > Signature Patches > Quixotic Sound Design. That will give you a reasonable impression of what kind of sounds to expect. Only more, and better! (e.g. all of those patches were done on V1 and don't use any of the update features)

Cool video (I loved the Nanobots visual especially) but what the hell are you burning in that fireplace man? That can't be healthy... ;)

Update in case anyone interested missed it: I put up a free bonus refill for all Oberon owners on my website. It's called "Orkestrial Oberload" and consists of "outtakes" and other leftovers from making the Obersounds refill.

- 20 rhythm template patches
- 30-ish polysynth template patches
- 10 new patches that use the Reason (10) Drum Supply sample library.
- Some PolyCV-enabled combinators
- Some voice-based patches courtesy of a well-known forum member...

The template patches were used extensively in the creation of the refill so they may be useful to anyone wanting to explore sound design for Oberon for themselves. If you're more of a preset person but are on the fence about the Orkestrial Obersounds refill, you are invited to try the new patches (provided you have reason 10)

You can find the free refill here, d/l at the bottom of the page: https://www.quixoticsounddesign.com/ork ... bersounds/

Last bump for this... My final demo track for Orkestrial Obersounds. Also uses a lot of polycv sequence patches from the free Orkestrial Oberload refill.

come on folks, give king Oberon a spin if you haven't already!
