Hi,

I'm wondering how to make the instrument at the beginning of this song:

It's an old SID song so it shouldn't be difficult with Reason, but somehow I can't put it together. I've managed to do it once before but I forgot how I did it.

Any ideas?

Daniel

The instrument right from the beginning (the arpeggio) is a pulse wave where the pusle with is modulated slightly. On the next instrument (the bass line) the pulse modulation is more intense. Thor's analog oscillator with a modulated PW knob should work for that.

2 REs for creating authentic chiptune sound are:

Thanks! I tried PWM but I obviously didn't get it right and gave up... Will have to try again when I get home.

It's tricky to get the sound right. Try subtle changes in frequency andin the amount of modulation.

Got it right, thanks for the tip. 75% PWM modulation, at a pretty low rate, plus a low sustain does the trick. Many thanks!
