can anyone hint me to a good patch either in the Factory Soundbank or anything Antidote that resembles the Bladerunner brassy synth sound?
Never seen the movie, can you link example?electrofux wrote: ↑09 Oct 2017can anyone hint me to a good patch either in the Factory Soundbank or anything Antidote that resembles the Bladerunner brassy synth sound?
It’s probably a CS-80 patch in the original, which has a nice ‘soft’ feel to it IMO. Haven’t played one in years but did grab a few samples from a friends back in the 80s (wish I had grabbed more notes). Search for CS80, or if you can’t find CS80 samples try Oberheim OBX or Prophet 5 samples.

"A Save Place.cmb" in Reason 9 sounds comes pretty close.

Just checked "A Safe Place". While I think that's part of the overall sound palette, I thought maybe the OP was talking about that sawtooth-through-lowpass-filter-with-envelope sound, which is fairly easy to make (and sounds great in a lot of synths). Perhaps some clarification with a link, OP? If that's what you're looking for, I (or any number of us) could probably whip up a patch pretty quickly. Might be a fun challenge.
Something like this?

Sounds like Vangelis to me! But let's see what the OP says.

I mean that one, probably the CS-80 one. It is been used in a couple of scenes and has this very brassy saw:
a safe place.cmb is lacking that brassyness for my taste.
The br.zip is getting nicely close though, needs to be roughened and fattened up just a tiny bit but is pretty much what i am after. thx.
Edit: just a bit of saturation knob and then drowning it in the Filmscore rv7000 preset and now i am very happy. Thx again

This combinator is close. You will need Antidote though -

I made it on a D-50 and sampled that; it's in WBF R2 for those of you who has it.
If you ain't hip to the rare Housequake, shut up already.
Damn.

Thanks for posting this, Catblack!
Sounds great!
In general the quality needed depends on what else is going on in your song.

I've been having a lot of fun over the last half hour trying to recreate that GalxyGirl patch using only Europa. I've got something pretty close and learned a bunch on the way (driving the LP filter really adds a particular character to sawtooth sounds that is unlike anything else!). Thanks again for posting this!

Wow have to check out the new stuff. I second that the saw needs to be driven to get that really brassy touch that is in the original especially in the higher notes. Might be a speciality of the CS-80.
BTW the sounds in the new Bladerunner that are similar to this one also have some weird but very strong pressure (might be the cinema pa though). I hear some very strange sounds throughout the whole movie. Sounds as if they also had a batallion of trumpets mixed in

I find PolySix's saw in unison with a bit of spread and lots of RV7000 works pretty well.
Edit: Looking at my patch I actually used RV7 If you up the numbers of voices you get more of that "brassy" if I interpret that right.

Here is the reason file:

Of this track (to preview):
At least now you can get a subscription to use all the rack extensions i use here if you don't have them

Great sounds all around! I love where this thread is going.
Thats really cool, i added velocity and aftertouch to the preset, added a longer release time and a different reverb (ok, its washed in reverb now, but thats the way i like it )normen wrote: ↑11 Oct 2017I find PolySix's saw in unison with a bit of spread and lots of RV7000 works pretty well.

Here's my lazy but somewhat useful response... start with any fat saw wave and shape appropriately. The real secret is adding subtle pitch variation and by that I mean very gently & slightly modulate the pitch.
Nice. Yeah, I don‘t actually play keys so playability wasn‘t a priority Happy that it‘s useful for youdana wrote: ↑11 Oct 2017Thats really cool, i added velocity and aftertouch to the preset, added a longer release time and a different reverb (ok, its washed in reverb now, but thats the way i like it )
