Poor little Johnny has always dreamed of having an Engl. But he is too poor, so sad. And his favorite software Engl simulation, Softube Metal Room, didn't work in his cheap but great DAW, Reason. But day of days, his favorite Nordic Nerds, Propellerheads, added VST to Reason, and this allowed the vast northern tundra to thaw enough for the Eastern Russian hordes to thunder westwards into Stockholm with their Engl emulation, Mercuriall, selling it for $60.

Hey Darryl, I think Dimi has been pretty busy and you can get quicker answers about the Kuassa refill from his Facebook page. Personally, I use the Overdrive effect box the most, but I mostly do Stratocaster traditional sounds. More modern I guess is the Distortion effect.

Very busy indeed!! Awesome refill:

Not a guitar player, but perhaps it might be a cool idea to make a 9.5 refill with tones using some of the free amp plugins available. The LePou plugins come to mind http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/. Of course we'd have to see if Refills work great with VSTs, but guitarists will soon have even more options.

I thought Softube Amp RE Lead mode was the ENGL model...

Yeah, I know the documentation says boogie, but I always thought that was marketing going on the rectifier trendiness.
I expect Softube to have reused the models they had at the time, I think it would have become expensive for the Props to have them develop new models - recycling code is cheaper.

Haven´t tried the Softube Metal Room - does it sound very different to you?

Dramatically. It does to my innards what Mercuriall does.

Fair enough, that's what counts.
Seems the model is not equal then, maybe simplified.
Have you noticed obvious differences in CPU usage?

I couldn't afford Softube Metal Amp Room, $130. I just listened carefully to their examples here:

They do say nothing else was used, so you're probably right...

The only thing I can think about is that they slightly (meaning not too much work) "crippled" the models in Softube Amp REs, in order not to devalue the VST main products.

There many complaints that the Softube amps in Ableton sound lousy (never tried myself) - maybe Ableton is paying a cheaper license so they had to be "crippled" further. :)

Just speculating around... ;)

By the way, did you try the free Mercuriall products? You have the Tube Screamer and the Marshall and Cornford pre's (which you can couple with Ignite Amps TPA-1 power amp for an all free complete package).

The Kuassa Classic Tones refill is a big step forward for Reason. It deals with the heart of what this thread has been all about since the beginning. Plus the Kuassa devices are on serious sale right now. All three amps bundle for $51. And the Overdrive, Fuzz, and Distortion boxes for $19 each. With this free refill, and the stock Impulse Response cabinets, and the stock Reason effects, you can get well over ten thousand dollars worth of professional guitar amps, cabinets and effects. But you don't have to carry them around.

Thanks Dimi, Grahadea, Adhit, Arie, Ed, and the whole team. http://www.kuassa.com/about-us/

Incidentally, can you tell which 17 seconds of Marshall is which? Softube Amp, Kuassa Creme, and Sononics Revival?

Or more appropriately, which one you like the best?

last one.
But bass line sound seems to have a bit of distortion and overlap a in frequency with the guitar, gets hard to notice them apart.

Dimi, fantastic work: great sounds, great covers, I particularly enjoyed Pink Floyd, Def Leppard and Police.
On top of all, it's free, thanks!
But... is it just me or the included demo songs only have drum tracks?
I have no sound at all, no content, for the remaining tracks (guitars, bass, etc)

Here's a very interesting Youtube video on using The RV7000 Convolution setting with Softube Amp to get excellent metal tone. Who knew? Gotta try these with the new Kuassa refill.

Only a while ago I was asking your opinion about Softube amps... by that post, I gather you consider the included speaker emulations (IRs for sure) not that special?

I find most overdriven sounds too thin sounding, too sharp, not warm.

Line 6 is doing some cool things, this is a really nice example imo:

Thick and warm, and dirty. Complex mids.

They are, for $1,400. I like the sounds of Helix (by Line6). It's in a league with Kemper.

I currently have the Line 6 Helix as well as the AX8 by Fractal Audio. I've used the Helix for over a year and the AX8 for about 6 months. I like things about both but right now the AX8 does it for me tone wise.
