Great thread!  Thanks for putting this list together :)
I had already grabbed the Bricasti M7 and have been playing with those.

Question: I believe the RV7000 was inspired by the 480L...
Was it modeled after it and was it perhaps built using impulses from the 480L?

The RV7000, up until now, was an algorithmic reverb. So it didn't use IRs internally. If it was inspired by another reverb, any modeling was done mathematically.

Found this list on KVR : http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2102159
Its an old thread though, some links are dead. Some formats not usable without conversion.

From what I know, it was not modeled after it. The RV7000 algorithms are by Propellerheads. I think 480 were only used as a reference to make sure RV7000 became a top notch reverb, challenging several of the most famous hardware reverbs of that time.

RV7 was simple, just like many software reverbs were back then, so RV7000 was a natural step to raise the bar in the same way software samplers took on hardware samplers.

Since this is now relevant to Reason I will move it to the general forum.

I know nothing about this convolution world, but will learn now as Reason has allowed it. Thanks all who share their experience and knowledge!

In the manual it says in the section about the RV7000 mkII that Propellerheads have collected a lot of convolution samples, which they will provide as a Refill downloadable from the shop.
Cheers!

You know, .. I've never really just listened to an IR before, though having listened to the IR of a few algorithmic reverbs I must say the sound is very familiar.

Quite interesting, ... makes me wonder how easy it is to create new and interesting styles of reverb with synthesis :)

I've been loading every synth sound and wav file imaginable into the rv2 and am getting a fabulous array of reverbs and effects.  I'm hoping that running a synth through crazy Shape modulations and using the resulting wav will yield cool results also.

For anyone who has Logic and wants to quickly convert all their Space Designer IR's into .wavs.  I created and used this little python script last night for myself and it worked like a charm.

How to Use:
1. Duplicate your Space Designer IR folder and put it somewhere safe.
2. Modify the scripts path variable to the location of your new safe folder.
3. Launch script via Terminal "python {name of script}.py"
4. Done

Here you go - http://pastebin.com/Ng4FiAte

Also, note this, you can edit the script if you'd like but there's no difference:

------------
For anyone who has Altiverb or any other encrypted IR's that they want to get into Reason as .wavs, just follow these steps:

1. Go to - http://www.noisetime.com/impulsecreation.html - and download the dirac.zip file.  This file contains a bunch of 1 full amplitude samples at various bit depths and sampling rates.
2. Load up your DAW of choice and put the Dirac Sample of your choice onto a track with Altiverb loaded.  Leave the Altiverb settings on default, 100% wet, no pre delay, no attack, no nothing.
3. Bounce/Record the Dirac Sample played through Altiverb as a .wav with the same sampling rate/bit depth as the Dirac Sample.
4. You have successfully captured the Impulse Response as a .wav for use in Reason.  It will sound identical to Altiverb.

--------
Let me know if anyones got questions!

Just a thought, but isn't sharing IRs from copywritten IRs more or less the same as sharing the output of a sample from a player?

try Driver and its long fade-out-Curve-Envelopes, and experiment with the noisecolour and filters :)
an example:

and EQ the heaven out of it :)

I'd say it's exactly the same thing where as if you distibute content that you have a license to use you'd be in breach of the EULA supplied with the library.

It's probably OK in most cases for your own use as you are generally licensed to use that content in your own productions.  There are often clauses about reverse engineering 'protected' content even for your own use so still it's probably worth checking the EULA of the licensed content you are intending to use in this way.

Making that licemsed content available to another party though would most certainly be copyright infringement.

Thank you Bombs and Bottles! That script is awesome!

I did end up using .aif instead of .wav and it totally works.

thanks again,

copyright infringements are interesting. it is THE foundation of hiphop. taking samples and rapping over it.

everything is a remix.

I love making IR's of anything really. I have many filters, reverbs, amps, cabinets. and I do believe I can sample their characteristics using my own IR technique. sure it is like I am sampling a filter, reverb etc. but if I can't copyright it, copyright is ruining my party.

what if someone had copyrighted C major? ...

it's cool to use the feedback of an old Hendrix record and use it as a IR layer. and hell yeah that is MY creative input. I am not infringing Hendrix. same as Hendrix is not infringing Marshall, who invented that sound.

Does the architect of a building hold the rights to its impulse response - or does the current owner of the building? :D

I bet the guy behind Altiverb could actually give a somewhat serious answer to this (having experience travelling all over the world kicking people out of buildings to suck out their precious impulse responses :D ).

Indeed! That guy is a Dutch guy btw like me :) Must ask him one day...

But this thing about copyright is always about this: which comes first, the chicken or the egg? Hendrix comes first but I am next...

Which version of the M7 IRs is correct to use on RV7000? I downloaded the Quad WAV files but they are not loaded into RV7000.

The Wave files for each preset there are three WAVs. One for Left channel, one for Right channel and one for Mono-to-stereo reverbs. I saw on documentation that RV7k is a true stereo but we cannot load neither quad or two (L + R) IRs.

Any idea on what's right?

Well quad files wouldn't make much sense, given that the RV7000 outputs stereo only.
I can't tell you if this is exactly the way to go, but I'd create two mono audio tracks and one stereo audio track, group the mono tracks, pan them hard, select the bus als Rec source for the stereo track and mix them down to a stereo impulse, which you can then load.
But what do I know, there might be easier ways...
Cheers!

Actually some of the IRs I found for True Stereo are either quad WAVs or two stereo WAVs. For example, Waves IR-1 can load any of them (one quad or two stereos).

On RV7k we can only load a stereo IR so I don't know which one to use, the Mono-to-stereo (that is stated as not true-stereo per se, the left or right channel.

Another option is to create a combinator with two RV7k, split the input, load the left IR into one and right IR into the second and merge the outputs. At least that's what is explained on http://signaltonoize.com/?page_id=667 but I found it weird since RV7k documentation already says it is a True Stereo Reverb.
