With Monoplay, you can restrict polyphonic melodies so that only one note is played - for example, only the highest, the lowest, or another specific note. I had been searching for a rack extension that allows me to split chords. I find this particularly useful when composing melodies that include bass notes, such as trance arpeggios.

What I’m still missing, unfortunately, is the ability to split the gate signal as well. I’d love to combine, for instance, the gate signal of high notes with the pitch of low notes. Currently, this can only be achieved with some CV routing. If this were directly supported, it would be much simpler.

The RE player can be found in the shop here (Intro price is currently 10€):

I used it for a trance melody. It’s extremely useful for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cp1FNXt_-fY

The Rack extension was not developed by me but by Tonicmint. Since there was no forum post about it yet, I just wanted to point out that it now exists. I find the tool incredibly useful. It would be a shame if it didn’t get enough attention.

Interesting looking device. What was the go with that video though? Very odd. Looked like an AI generated, RE podcast!! :?

I got it and love the results.. For me, the video was too irritating to be useful. But I think this is the most important part to understand how it works (wish there was a video showing this graphically):

buffer - if turned off, it is just working on the simultanously pressed keys. Otherwise the keypresses are buffered and the output is calculated by the held down notes. For example, if you press A and then B and then you releasing B, and if the note mode is the "newest" if the buffer mode is off then the output will be silence, but if the buffer mode is on, then the output will be the A note.

legato - if turned on and after a keypress the calculated output note are same as the previous note, then no new note on event will be send out. Otherwise the note will be retriggered.

Oops ok congrats to Tonicmint on release and congrats to you on this thread. :D Having a blast so far!
Here is what i did to get a 1 finger orchestral thingamajig, the likes of Sonuscore, EW Opus, etc..
Its just a 4 piece example.
-Element Kushview (Thank you to Poohbear and Koshdukai for all they shared about Element, thats where i learned about it)

Took me some trial and error here but eventually i sent my input device to 4 "MIDI Channelize" nodes in Element.
Click on each Channelize node to set it to Ch1 Ch2 Ch 3, etcThey all go right to the Kushview out.

Now back to the Rack - The Element is our mothership now! (Keep track of your keyboard focus)
Optional: I added a Chord Seq Player to the Element track and set it to the Soundtrack/Classical stuff (naturally)
Ithink that you will find times to use both methods - either writing with the aid of a MIDI chord thing - or just "playing keys"

-Lock each instrument in rack to a corresponding Kushview channel.
-Each instrument gets its own MonoPlay RE and settings

Once its working - start adding Players to the instruments! :geek:
-Dual arp on woodwinds?
-Bassline Generator for the flute line?
-another Dual Seq set simply to hit the stabs on that Tutti orch?
-maybe you disabled the MonoPlay on the strings? to just let the chords play thru..

Remember, depending on the instrument/library - you may have keyswitch/articulation zones in lower octaves - it is a MUST to be aware of these and take action. You dont want to trigger these.. until you want to! so sometimes you might "remove bass" in the chord seq or change articulation zone in the plug itself, or maybe we filter out the lower MIDI zones with something in Element? IDK just gotta be aware of it.

Takes some planning, setup and doing.. but its absolutely wonderful results so far. And these masterful 1 finger orchestral thingies are great, but we haven't even got to SYNTHS yet! Or the implications for some crazy "PercussionBot" .. Or combining all of it in some HybridOrch monster patch.

Just give the man his $9 and GET TO IT!

Nearly FREE, infinitely customizable, insanely inspiring. and useful. I'm happy. Hope my rambling can help someone!!

Yes Element is what i use here - but there may be a comparable free solution?
( IDK because i bought Element and since it finally gave me MIDI plugs in Reason I stopped looking elsewhere.)

Sorry for the confusion anyone. i meant "nearly free" as in $9 for the MonoPlay, since i already owned Element.

Sorry about the video, but we are in 2024 :) and I was excited, how AI can talk long minutes about two simple knobs ... :)

anyway aquil and hydlide from reasonexperts made very nice videos about the device, thank you for that! ;)

here again the video by aquil:
