Did RS specify why they couldn't make the new modules available in R13 available for R12? Is there some kind of new SDK or upgrade that only works with R13 features or was this just to bait consumers into upgrading?

Incentive to upgrade to R13. It's a business.

I would, it sounded great the last I tried it.

It's a good bread and butter synth. If they made it an Add-On only, I am sure there would be more cries from the community that it should have been built into R13.

Apparently people would pay $200 for Polytone, as there's not much else in the R13 upgrade worth mentioning.

RS hasn't specified why new modules in R13 aren't available for R12. It could be due to technical reasons like a new SDK or system upgrades. While it might seem like a push for upgrades, it's likely due to technical constraints and improvements.

RS stated that the new modules couldn't be made available for R12 due to compatibility issues with the updated SDK and features exclusive to R13. It’s likely that these enhancements rely on R13’s architecture, rather than simply baiting consumers into upgrading.

The only things of interest in Polytone for me are the morph and filter crossfade. I would probably use the filter CF most for bass, but TBH I would prefer it coupled to a wavetable synth for that application. I don't know how much use I would get out of the morph feature or whether it would just become a rarely used thing/novelty.

I'm sure it sounds great, what with it being newer code. I suppose it's effectively a better sounding Subtractor and Thor replacement for a lot of bread and butter things.

Absolutely Ripley! Best thing about R13 as far as I'm concerned, it's hard to get excited about a delay plugin in 2024 but this one is so versatile and fun to experiment with

Polytone on the other hand... great feature set on paper, but so far seems to be somehow less than the sum of its parts. Maybe I need to spend more time with it, but then maybe the fact that I'm not busting to spend more time with it speaks for itself
