It is like 2 PX-7 synths in one, which basically emulates a DX1 (hence the name of the RE I guess). They also ported the large 200K refill for the PX7 to this one.

If you have PX7, then I see little reason to get this. You can simply load 2 PX7s into a combinator. But for those people who missed out on getting PX7, it is nice that there is a straight DX7/DX1 emulation available again.

From what I can see it looks to be the same developer that made the PX7. Good to see this back in the shop along with some additions.

The dev should find some graphics designer to get good looking and inviting UI design...

I wonder what changed that allowed them to sell a new RE considering the PX7 was apparently taken down due to a licensing issue?

PX7 was removed because Reason Studios was not the product owner (similar to the remaining A-List REs being removed) and it was to make things more clear with Reason+ and having access to all REs made by Reason Studios.

This is very exciting! I'm a huge fan of PX7 and PX1 looks really great!

At $89 I wonder if there might be a crossgrade opportunity from PX7?

I'm also curious if they can revive the PX7 ReFills made by third parties or make it easy for the ReFill designers to do that. Those are some of my favorites—NucleusSoundLab's Neo DX and Navi Retlav's PX7 ReFill.

Also, the images on the shop page are cropped and only show half of the device. Here's the full front panel:

I have PX7 and I don't need a crossgrade, as this doesn't really bring anything new beyond PX7. As I said, just drop two PX7s into a combinator for that DX1 power. The integrated reverb, although a nice touch, is no competition for the reverbs that are already available in Reason. Besides, when I played my DX7 back in the days, the first FX I always had on it was a stereo chorus.

Yeah it depends on uses and if there were a crossgrade option, what the price of that would be. For me, I like the interface and having the two engines in one and not having to navigate between two PX7's inside a Combinator. It also offers the copy/paste feature between the two engines which is handy and then it's remembered in the clipboard even when changing patches.

If you're someone who wants to collaborate with another person and not have to bounce to track, having a version that isn't discontinued would be ideal. And if you're a ReFill designer, then of course you can't make or sell ReFills for PX7 any longer, so it might then be appealing for them as well.

Just because it closely resembles PX7 doesn't mean it is the same developer.

PX7 was made by a third party and licensed to Reason Studios. This is an RE that is being sold in the shop by an external dev. There is nothing (so far) indicating they have anything to do with each other.

Remember that RS never made the developer of PX7 known.

That is not entirely true. The PX7 refills from Navi Retlav are still available in the shop. I'm guessing you are not prohibited from making refills for REs that are no longer in the shop because those REs are still being available for people who own them.

Yes, those golden knobs are awful. And the black ones too. The overall design isn’t balanced.
They’ve just spoiled the px7 design

Sorry I meant practically speaking. New customers of course can't buy and use PX7 ReFills without PX7 and designers aren't spending their time making ReFills for a discontinued product. Sales for PX7 ReFills are most certainly low. That's what I mean.

I like the gold knobs :)

My main critique would be the placement of the EG diagram. It seems like it was just placed at the bottom where it could fit. I would move the EG diagram to where the Engine select is (where it is on PX7)...I'd move the Engine select to where the Reverb is...and I'd move the Reverb to where the EG diagram is.

I think it's nice to have the Reverb near the master vol, but I feel like the current placement of the EG diagram could be better. If moving the reverb to the bottom, there is some vertical space gained if wanting to add some tabs for other effects later...

Something along the lines of this maybe?

Some of the original PX7 patches are even included.

This came in by surprise. I am also curious if he is the den of PX7. At least from his own information he was related to PH at some point. Maybe they had a deal back on that time regarding PX7.

For anyone overlooked his support email and their the homepage, here it is http://pskonsult.se/

As someone who stumbled into having access to a DX1 back in the day, I’m glad to see this - and hope they include the original DX1 presets as well. I have them on a floppy disk somewhere….😜
