I love RDK and use it a lot, but the RDK manual doesn't really explain what the "ALT HI-HAT" key mappings do.

I usually trigger the high hat using F#1, G#1 and A#1 (Original key map).

However F#3 - F4 are also mapped to hi-hat sounds, and labeled "ALT HI-HAT", with sub-markings "POLY". I'm wondering how these are supposed to be used? Anyone know how these are intended to be triggered? My basic goal is to maximize the realism of my hi-hat programming, which means lots of sloppy "half open" sounds (which I know is a pain point for digital hi-hat emulation).

Any tips/thoughts on this stuff, or any other RDK tips and tricks, appreciated!

You nailed it - for most RDK patches these are half opened so are great for rocking out half open sounds. For this purpose I usually only use the alt hi hats. There's also a pedal HH which is useful, can't remember the note.
