If PX7 got a resurrection in the shop, I'd grab it right away.
It's a shame about the licensing issues but it seems like neither party could work out a deal to keep this thing alive and publicly available. I guess ultimately it's the Reason users who never bought it first time round that suffer as a result. Algoritm is wonderful but it's simply not a DX7 clone; and sometimes that's just what a song needs.

I had hoped for a while that perhaps the original developers who created PX7 would be able to re-release it without the Propellerhead badge but it looks like that won't be happening now; plus it seems impossible to actually find out just who was the mysterious creator of this mythical Rack Extension....

Wow! That's a bummer. The DX7, I mean PX7 is one of the most versatile synths to have. This synth just always turns out to sound good.

In terms of legacy Propellerhead stuff, the PX7 is now like the old Abbey Road Keyboards ReFill - amazing sounds that have simply disappeared from being publicly available due to pesky licensing issues; there's no other discernible reason why these were withdrawn from sale. Great for those of us who already have them but for those who don't it's a real shame...

302 posts about how great PX7 is. I tried it on release and didn’t like it. Never liked Yamaha synths. Roland all the way. Ironic that this is post 303 hahaha.

I have no evidence for this but the more I play with PX7 and the more I listen to its attention to detail, the more I think it might have been a Softube commission job - which would explain the licensing issues that have caused it to disappear. I could be completely wrong, but the authenticity of it really is unparalleled to my ears and after playing with Model 84 recently and appreciating just how good Softube are at recreating hardware in software form, it really made me wonder about the origins of the code in PX7...

If it was Softube who made it it would be blue and cost €1000.

That's a good thing. It shows the guys at RS that it is important to a lot of people to talk about it. It shows that the PX7 was important somewhere after all. Maybe there will be something else at some point. Sometime when all the construction sites have been completed. An equivalent synth from RS that can load PX7 / DX7 patches would be nice.

Not even the mini px7 hidden in the Sega mega drive that gave us those funky sounds in Streets of Rage and Sonic 2 (or was it 3?)

Yeah RYM2612 is one of my favorite REs! I love dropping in patches directly from RYMCast of all my favorite Genesis games. Very fun and such great sounds! 🤘

Completely agree! The VGM files at https://project2612.org/ have been a real inspiration when combined with RYMCast. Just so easy to get patches out and create super-authentic sounding Mega Drive/Genesis compositions.

Check this out if you've not already heard it Joey, it's the Outrun soundtrack song Passing Breeze played back through Dexed:

I reckon that'll be right up your street - although it would've sounded better if they'd used PX7 instead ;)
