PX7 - Removed from Shop?
the thought that it could have been removed from the Shop because it might end up being included in a v12 release is interesting. it would be a nice good faith move to prevent people from spending money on something they can get included in an update.
but I wonder if it may be included in a v11.x point update instead...including it in a paid version (12) means people would only get it if they’d paid (presumably) $130, which makes a bit less sense if you’re on an earlier version and want PX7, but aren’t interested in whatever else v12 may have to offer. don’t want to make people pay for a full version just to get a single synth.
if they included it in an 11.x point update though, it would mean anyone on the current version would get it free. of course, if you’re still not on 11 yet, you’d still have to pay that premium in order to get it.
it would be an interesting move if the removal was only temporary, and they allow people to buy it again, after such a release.

Yes maybe they want PX7 to be included in Reason, so that Reason has a proper stock FM synth. They did add wavetable with Europa and Grain for granular synthesis in R10. Seems like they've covered most of the basics at this point.guitfnky wrote: ↑15 Jan 2021the thought that it could have been removed from the Shop because it might end up being included in a v12 release is interesting. it would be a nice good faith move to prevent people from spending money on something they can get included in an update.

Perhaps they want it in the standard version. They didn't include PX7 in the Suite version after all.
Sounds good to me!

This thread has jumped very quickly from "a Rack Extension has been removed from the shop" to "Reason 12 is imminent."
I would bet money on it being back in the shop on Monday along with the Izotope RE, and that they were temporarily taken down to fix some technical issue.
It's not out of the question that Reason 12 could be coming soon. According to the Reason Almanac, if the R11-R12 timeframe were as short as R9-R10, it could come out this month! But the 3-version moving average has it pegged for Q2-Q3, which I think is much more likely given that the hiDPI update is still in the works.
(As I've previously mentioned, the hiDPI update is almost certain to be an 11.x update rather than part of Reason 12, because Reason Studios has never pre-announced a major-version feature months before announcing the new version.)

Well I'm going to set the cat among the pidgins.
If it ends up being included in v12 upgrade I will definitely stop buying rack extensions.
I have brought most of the upgrades pretty much upon release and opted for suite when announced, even though I had already purchased a number of the included devices as it was still a massive saving and not much more expensive than a standard upgrade, but I'm seriously considering not buying new devices until after the release of new upgrades.
Either way it's sad to see how many devices have disappeared over the last few years, personally I would rather they just kept them available for minimal cost if not for free!
----Edit---
Or maybe open source the code for them that could really help the rack extension platform.

PX7 was released eight years ago in 2012, I feel like that's plenty of time to get your money's worth out of it if it's becoming a free inclusion.
Alternately, it might have been outsourced like the A-List devices that are being removed/replaced.

I kept skipping buying PX7, until the Amazing 11 Suite upgrade (and PX7 at 50% off). I hope PX7 Next Gen will turn into an FM-X killer

Yeah I figured you bought it ages ago. It’s fine when that happens. Personally though I thought it was a bit of a kick in the balls for people who bought stuff like Complex and Scenic a matter of months before they got fired into the Suite. Fortunately I’ve learned my lesson.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and present an alternate (and slightly more sinister) theory that perhaps Yamaha themselves have had a role in this. For example, a trademark or patent dispute could have arisen leading to RS having to withdraw the PX7. IIRC a similar thing happened with Roland leading to the removal of ReBirth from all platforms.
Another theory is that the code for PX7 could have been provided under lease or license from either Yamaha themselves or another third party, which has either expired and no options for renewal, or a commercial dispute has led RS to being told to cease. Or maybe Yamaha have asked for the code for their own future product(s)?

I think they just wanted to update the PX7 screenshot (with the hi-dpi version) and just messed up so it doesn’t show anymore in the shop and (if you’ve bought it) the picture is no more here in your account but the RE is still downloadable
The only thing I can think of regarding licensing problems could be :

PX7 has (had?) the best interface for programming FM synthesis, ever. Menu diving? Hardware is best but I don't have a DX7IID anymore.
