Someone on facebook said it best. This RE costs 37% of Logic, why does RS think this is a good value proposition?

Tools should be no more than 50 and should be often on sale for half that.

That said, I want the tool, but won't pay full price for this one.
Bc Logic’s biz model is to sell Apple hardware.

Reason is ‘boutique’ daw still, if you will, in my opinion.

Logic dev team producing stand-alone software for $200 would operate at a big deficit. RS will continue to charge more until they gain more market share, or who knows with the VC company involved maybe there’s and M&A down the line.
Though It’s difficult to guess where RS is going accurately.

Back more to topic: I feel all the players have been one of the best value propositions to the connect ability of Reason building of what the rack originally offered.
So ya I want all the players to play with too :) and share all your sentiment. Cheers!

so? there are tons of plugins that sell well that cost as much, or more, and do less. and many cost more than Logic, or other DAWs. RS thinks it’s a good value proposition because it will sell just fine. it’s not like they just slap a price sticker on the tin with some arbitrary number. they understand the market better than any of us ever will.

looks really interesting, but I am really weary buying Reason devices because you allways get ripped off down the line... i fully expect to see this device in R12 probably early March 😂🙄

Looks very interesting, but as others have mentioned already, at this point I'm pretty hestitant to buy any REs from Reason Studios. Their stuff is very likely to end up in an upgrade, Suite or bundle sooner or later.
But we'll see. I'll most likely give this a spin with the trial. If I love it I might not be able to wait for a better deal.
I'm hoping for more videos to come out about it before I use up my trial though.

Wouldn't it make sense to synchronies the switching of patterns on the left side as in Live

- to a metric: 1/16, 1/8 ....
- end of pattern, after 2 .... rounds
- ad hoc as it is now

and make this choosable by the user as a drop down field. Best would be separate for each pattern.

That would make a lot of sense as an addition to this otherwise very strong RE Player!

I trust Reason Studios to come up with a very intuitive integration between clip launching and their player devices

'Scene launching' would be more impressive.

That's only if the current 'form' sticks together. Times are changing, and a GUI update could take ages.

I wish I could just drop one of my many 1000's of midi ideas directly on top of it and mutate it right away into infinity, and have Left/Right locators so I could "scrub" longer midi files (like Grain and its sample window).

Core features? Usefulness? etc.

I didn't try the demo yet but it looks pretty cool from the few videos I saw. One thing that cracks me up are the music theory elitists in the youtube comments who seem upset about "AI making music" yet many of these elitists are still in the same position as the rest of us producers and beat makers.

Interesting player. I've been having some fun with it.

Some of my initial thoughts:

1) Why does "length" only go to 99? Seems like an odd number; 99 steps seems like a pretty unusable number to me. I would expect it to go to 128 steps (or any number divisible by 16). Is there some kind of two digit limitation in the SDK or something? Seems like 128 is normal cutoff point.

2) I wish there were two record modes. One that would keep going, looping back on itself (as it does now), and one that stops when the loop reaches the beginning (not looping back and recording over itself). It's kind of annoying when it starts recording notes over the first notes of the loop.... so I basically have to have perfect timing to stop the recording at the precise time my loop is done.

3) Drag and drop from the random player to the pattern button would be a useful workflow improvement (similar to Sequences copy feature).

4) I would love to see some kind of pattern playback sequencer. This is true of any player that has multiple pattern preset/pages (usually 1-8 pages). It would be great to be able to set some kind of sequence on the rack unit, without having to go to Reason's main sequencer and do it there.

Yeah, those snobs can be annoying. The thing is: All the music theory we have, scales, chords, rules for harmony and writing arpeggios etc etc are shortcuts invented by someone else that make it easier for us to create and sculpt musical ideas.

Midi tools like this are just an extension of the same concept IMO. A human still has to guide , choose, edit and arrange whatever melodies this thing can spit out.

I'd like to see one of those guys press one button and hey presto there's a 100% competed track right there.

if it quacks its a duck. nothing will change.
like i said interesting device, won't be buying it. i am happy people like it and i wish RS every success. they are in the business of making money, im in the business of trying to spend my money wisely and buying their devices is not a wise move for me. history dictates i would be wise to be patient 🤙🏼

Like others I'd like to be able to mutate midi that's already in the sequencer. I understand that it is not straightforward to get midi from the sequencer in the player. But on page one of this thread it looked like someone had made this work using some kind of CV RE. Was I reading this right, and if so what's the RE I need?

You don't need any additional RE for this, since Players always receive MIDI from their instrument track.
So if you want to mutate a pattern clip, copy it to the track of the instrument that Pattern Mutator is connected to.
Make sure that the pattern length on Mutator matches the length of the clip. (You can test it by playing back the clip and ensuring that Mutator's playhead does exactly one lap in the display)
Then enable record on Mutator and start playback on Reason's main transport.
Note that the recording will be quantized to the rate set on Pattern Mutator.

Bean,

I LOVE how the pattern can be “rotated” around the ring, to select a different start note. That’s a very intuitive way for me to think about it. Thank you

+1

Some patterns sound completely different based on a different start note.

Top feature for sure!!!
