I think $100 is a pretty good price for the features and sound (going based just on the videos). personally, couldn’t warrant that right now, since since I don’t use strings all that often these days, and I still have like 10 new instruments in Suite that I still need to learn. hopefully they add it to the Rewards list soon, though—I’d like to pick it up, if I can get it for a bit less. looks pretty amazing.

There are currently no firm plans for a Reason 12 Suite at all. We're kind of still evaluating Reason 11 Suite. Regardless of that decision, there won't be a Reason 12 this year.
See now here's the problem,

I like it,

I was after something like it,
but I'm a suite owner who is probably going to upgrade to 12 when it comes out, but after buying loads of RE's that ended up being included in suite it puts me off buying it as I now don't know if it will end up being included.

If I could use my reward vouchers to get some use out of them I would but at the moment it's not listed.

What to do.

Whoever choose the green/orange theme should do some soul searching because it made it look like a $19 thingy. Ghastly is the mild variant of what I think about the looks.
100% disagree with you on that, friend. The color scheme looks bang-on awesome, IMHO. Certainly not a $19 thingy. Also, the GUI/UX is very easy to understand and looks fine, IMHO.

I guess we did pretty good at guessing physical modelling after Ryans leak....
You did! Well done, you prying speculating bastards!! ;)

No but I was impressed with how much you guys were getting from a name and a blurry thumbnail, actually. It made me realize that the name was well chosen if it could convey that much alone.

Possibly a bit rich for my blood and/or needs, but I love this 'Fiddling Around' demo. I don't think many hearing it blind would think 'physical modelling'. Sounds like the real deal to me, albeit whacked with heavy compression (as fitting with the country style):

Well done team :)
Thanks for liking this one! I made this my first night playing with Friktion by taking a song i recorded with my actual fiddle playing friend and duplicated her fiddle solo using Friktion. It was helpful to have a real string player as my guide, since I don't know how those guys naturally think about double-stops and glides. But yeah, if you A/B this against her recording it fairs really well and from then on I was a Friktion Fiddle Fan

It's an interesting approach

It looks like a combination of instruments from the past, but only I feel that way.

Did you record an entirely new source?

a similar modern adjustment

processed piano and Reason Electric Bass

No, it's not similar at all. There was no recording, and no samples. Friktion is a 100% physically modelled synthesizer.

Friktion's made by Peter (co-founder and jokingly self-proclaimed Lord of Algorithms), Ludvig (product designer), Andy (graphics and design) and myself. :)
I likely won’t get a chance to test this out until next year, but a question or two...

I don’t see any breakout jacks on the back of the unit.
The pdf says that the Resonator section, when set to Dry, can use a convolution reverb for the body.
So the resonator bodies are IRs?
The pdf flowchart has the resonator >> reverb >> EQ >> volume
So, if you use dry/rv7000 conv, then you do not have access to the built in reverb/EQ/volume?

As a synth it's fine. As something that is meant to sound like real strings it is barely adequate. You could use those strings in a mix but even budget sample libraries blow it away. Even the demos sound a bit ropey.

I like the GUI and color scheme and can see why it was chosen. The orange contrasts well against the blue and brings attention to the really important interactive bits. From an accessibility perspective it works well, also.

The sounds are surprisingly very good and I would have a hard time distinguishing it from some of the sample libraries I have, provided attention is paid to the modulation of dynamics.

I’d like to give this a try with my akai MK3 x-y jostick to modulate 2 dynamics parameters easily.

Maybe it does not mean much but I really appreciate how well produced your videos are. Her voice fits well here.

Thanks for making that one! A/B-ing it in makes a lot of sense. For phrasing and technique, we look to Heifetz:

I have AAS String studio, but Friktion is way more impressive with realistic sounds. I was hoping not to be very impressed, but I really like this one how it sounds.

As long as there's a Reason something I'll be happy enough. I know I always say it but despite all my other options the Reason DAW is my go to. Actually can't believe how much music I've written in it over the last few years.
Took the words out of my mouth mate.

Glad you can use this in Reason 10 too.

So from Ryan's live stream today it is confirmed this is a Peter Jubel developed DSP (famous for the Nord Lead 1 DSP) and not licensed from AAS or SWAM.

Love strings Love this thing. D'know how you do it but (for me) you always seem to come up with the goods!

Cheers RS.

Definitely not. I've never used AAS strings, but SWAM this is most certainly not. The bowing sound is not great. But I think the plucks and the synth sounds are fun and useful.

Let me tell you, though!!.... if I did have influence that "banjo" would be an actual banjo!!! It's got six strings, a wide neck, and no 5th string peg. That my friends is a banjitar.

And sure, the resonating chamber is the same so it makes no sonic difference but I'm gearing up a letter writing campaign and marches in the streets to get a Friktion update with new line art!!
