Brand new Reason Studios Instrument : Friktion Strings
8( yeah almost $10 more than conversion. Can we have realtime conversion, or back to the more conservative $129 price.
everything I have heard ... I really like... I do agree it is worth a spinFaastwalker wrote: ↑28 Aug 2020Black Friday is a way off yet. I rarely buy new RE's without an intro price for fear of the inevitable sale.CephaloPod wrote: ↑27 Aug 2020First RE I've contemplated buying in quite some time. Trying not to spend money on REs though.
But this one is a bit special so may well have to jump on Friktion post TRY period. I think it's awesome

It seems to me that String Werks is more ensemble focused, while Friction is more solo focused. But above those perspectives, Friction is obviously more flexible as an instrument since you can create your own instruments, not only bowed strings. There are a couple of examples in the Friction sound bank. You probably can't go wrong owning both.

I download the test version and "wow", it sounds fantastic!
damn, got Jordan Rudess on board. nice!
Oh here's a part 2:
The plucks, pads, and weird sounds is where it's at with Friktion.

based on the watermark, I assumed it’s a teaser for something he’ll be sharing via Patreon. but I don’t really follow his videos or anything, so I’m just speculating.
possibly. if I were a betting man, I’d guess probably not though. from what I know of Rudess, he’s all about new tools and technologies, so I suspect he’s just genuinely interested.

StringWerks doesnt give a solo violin. Thats the only reason for me to get this new string machine. So I can stick it thru a Marshall cab sim and do Jean Luc Ponty covers.

String Werks is extremely limited in scope, as it's just a rompler (sample library). Friktion is a 100% physically modeled string synthesizer. There are no samples used whatsoever (non withstanding the IR response reverb built-in). String Werks and Friktion are completely different in scope and sound, but they do compliment each other nicely IMHO.

I would rather go with synthesized strings over sample based creations that take up much drive space... I have them both... both augment one another... friction is impressive all around... a few more mod slots could be added though... perhaps in an update. 6mb... love it... good for my old ssd second computer running 10 filled up to capacity! Friction has all I wanted in a software string instrument... still love stringwerks as well... just try it !

While a few guys here mentioned SWAM, i just had a quick look. They sound pretty realistic IMO. I like the mechanical stuff, where i can change the hardness of the bow hitting the string. Pretty awsome. And its currently on sale for a slappy 1400+ bucks you can get the whole bundle, nearly 400 for the solo strings only. What a steal
Nevertheless, the bow-hitting-control of SWAM impressed me.
