More like big cousin, in my opinion. It does use a different algorithm and gives you different controls. Personally, I prefer it to Buddycomp but I've seen people like Buddycomp better too.

Danke. Follow up question regarding character. Is this device all about clean, transparent results? Or will it provide colour if desired? I haven't trialled it yet, might have a chance to do so soon but it isn't certain!

This is definitely a transparent compressor. There is no distortion or emulation of analog components built in.

I really like it because it gives full control of attack and release times, low and high cut, dry/wet, and also has look ahead. All in the most simple and elegant design ive seen in a Re.

Before this I would be using mace, but it's pretty overkill for must applications and visually chaotic imo.

Indeed, it has nice features which is why I'm considering getting it!
