Dear RE Dev's.
I know there are loads of very complex polyphonic sequencers out there with all sorts of clever parameters but can someone please make a very simple Matrix with free running functionality?
I don't want ANY OTHER features added or REMOVED. Just a Matrix with free run and snap options. Nice and small so it tucks into a combi with out getting in the way. Exactly as a Matrix.
Please keep the Randomise function as Cmd-R if possible.

Thank you

PS. Yes, I've tried pretty much every RE option. All of em are too bloated for what I need em to do and do't do the simple tasks I do need in a very smooth manner. Which is basically plug it in, Randomise a monophonic patern (on or off the grid), tweak it maybe, CV out maybe. And not take up much space.

I must miss a point here...What exactly do you mean with free running? And in Combinator?

I believe he means: not synced to project's tempo and measures

You could always modulate the signal that comes out with something else off-tempo?

Well at the moment I bounce to midi and modulate the sequencer tempo but that creates different problems when only one device wants to be modulated in this way.

Really, if anyone can think of a decent work around, I'm all ears but I've been round and round with this and I see none.
Stupid tiny little thing is like an infected splinter in my little finger. Oly thing that was worse was the sample start knob on NNXT that can't be modulated. GRRR!!!

I'm not sure which devices have LAG for example, but Complex-1 has it.
You could feed it into Complex-1, apply some lag, and do some other magic with it. (If you have it ofcourse.)
The other thing i can think of maybe is Pulsar on a super slow rate, and let Matrix modulate the rate slightly or something ?

Have you looked at available RE (and player) sequencers and determined that they are too complex?

I understand that one device would be the handiest, but what if you could use the free running clock of say AS-16 and use that to trigger e.g. the Sequences player, would that work for you?

I have yeah.
Not that I'm afraid of complexity, it's just that if its more of a ball ache than the current set up there's no point.

There is the Thor sequencer. It isn't as visual as the Matrix but can free-run and is simple. So long as you don't mind ignoring the rest of the synth. It also has pretty decent Remote support, unlike the Matrix.

Maybe using a free running lfo as clock source for Step Recorder?

Yeah the Thor sequencer looks interesting... I'll check that out.

But it's still the same issue. Just need free run mode on a matrix.

Anyway, thanks everyone. And if anyone makes such an RE, let me know eh?

Yep, Thor is the correct answer for OP's request. OP, look into the Thor step sequencer. You'll be quite amazed at what you can do, and the CV potentials can spread that function over multiple devices. If you want a dedicated device along the same lines check out the AS-16 by DLD Technology.
