Since then I have bought 15 REs and 12 refills.

What is there left to say.

Edit: oh yeah...and 25 VSTs

I'm also sucker for more things for all the things
So far I've bought a couple of things, but I've looked at a couple of things, and some of those things will definately be bought. lol

Thinking about buying a bunch of things from OchenK (Glitch, Carve), The Chronologists (Truth, Equation stuff), Blamsoft (modular pack), Robotic Bean (euclidian),
add some more Lectric Panda (I own Kompulsion, RND, PSQ. Skope & M4) and Synapse (only bought GQ-7).

Then there's the rest of the shop... lol

At some point I will TRY to create music, so far it's experimentation over 'composing' I guess :P

Do you ever find that you spend more time fiddling with stuff than making music? I certainly do. The introduction of VSTs made this a million times worse. Suddenly there were soooo many more toys to play with.

However, I take the view that it's a hobby so if I enjoy spending my time fiddling with stuff then that's OK.

I’ve told myself I can’t buy anymore REs unless I finish some actual songs. This may or may not work out, lol.

Yep. That’s what I said too. Hmm.

But, as I’ve said a few times before, making music is something I do just for fun. Kind of like jamming with myself.

Buying a new RE is like buying a new CD for me. New sounds, new songs :).

If you have the disposable income and doing music as a hobby brings you joy I don’t see any problem. However, if you’re swimming in credit card debt you should probably reign in the spending, haha.

Hobbyist 4 life.
Instead of watching TV, I tweak music software.
Songs, well one or two may have escaped alive.

Way back when I was accumulating loads of outboard gear I set myself a rule that whenever I bought a new thing I had to make (and "finish") a song using it before I bought anything else. That rule lasted about 1.5 songs...

I've been giving out some money on new RE and VSTs lately too, in my case it was kind of necessary because I used to make music with bass and guitars and lacked a lot of stuff for making more electronic based music.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to spend some more money in the (near) future on VSTs an REs too, but now I'm at a very nice point where I'm just trying to get the most out of the REs and VSTs I already own, at least the most for my needs, because I've realized I am not even using 10% of the whole potential my new stuff offers, so I hope you are enjoying such a moment too :)

Ha ha. The majority of the stuff I’ve been buying IS to use with bass and guitars :).

Never say never! I was happy with the synth RE's I had in Reason. More than enough. A lot of them I just never used anyway, even though I was 100% convinced I had to have them at the time. I didn't need to buy anymore .......... then Complex-1 happened! But if it's not RE's it's something else. Currently scratching a modular / Eurorack itch. Always something to fuel the GAS :-/

I've been renting the 29$ a month for a while now... I bought the mix master rig (WORTH IT... at least on sale). I am renting Expanse to own. Sometimes I think I'd be better off buying but renting is a blast. It's like having access to everything I could want right then and there.
In the 90s, my midi music was on the Baulder's Gate site. That was my life peak.
Reasonite since 2000. My music (and my old midi) can be found here:
