Theres been alot more negative feedback from their community as of late, than I remember them ever having. They always had a very positive image and great client feedback....Idk whats changed at their admin level, but it's not good.
Lol, I know, I just thought I’d stir the pot since we’re complaining. Even with all of its flaws, reason still has a special place in my heart. No daw is perfect, and neither is any company. I’m still disappointed in their recent directions, but hey...just my opinion. If the consumer can’t whine, who can? :p.

Yikes 200 a month?! What speed is that? It costs about 38 quid here including telephone but that's "only" about 50mbit. It's okay for most things though. It's only when I upload huuuuge projects that it takes a while and I have to go busy myself with a cup of coffee or something. Speaking of which, definitely time for coffee!

The Norm, hey? I'm sure you aren't against diversity but that statement could sound pretty bad to my ears in contexts other than subscription models. But I'm sure you are correct within that context. Best buck my ideas up and get a permanent internet connection, I'd hate to be outside 'the norm' XD
People with enough money who could afford a very good computer or very good laptop, good enough phone, high speed connection, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and making music on multiple music apps, one of which costs $399. That's my context. Diversity in gearZac wrote: ↑11 Oct 2017The Norm, hey? Every single one of my devices, by default.
The internet has viruses and spyware and buggy windows updates. No need for that stuff on my main production machine. The only time my studio computer has ever touched the internet is when I first installed the OS/drivers and then when I needed to download Reason updates/RE's.
If i need to download something outside of www.Propellerheads.se, I do so on a non-critical laptop, then transfer files over (after thoroughly scanning/testing).
Hell, I only just upgraded from Windows XP for my main production machine a few months ago (maybe a year by now). The only reason I upgraded to a new machine with Win 7 was because new versions of Arturia and Reason didn't support XP. That computer still did everything I threw at it. And it's still chugging along as my backup machine. But I sure as hell didn't let it touch the internet since at least 2014 when support ended.
So yeah, if the subscription is online only then you can definitely count me out.
I'm pretty sure they are counting Windows XP users out, mate. ::checks calendar:: It's almost 2018.sublunar wrote: ↑11 Oct 2017Every single one of my devices, by default.

Yep, I had to upgrade to Win 7 in order to use version 8 a while back. Which is fine because I built a new computer at the time anyway. My XP machine spent 10 years as my main production machine and it served me well. Still works great but only gets use as backup duties now.
So how do you get your music from your machine to like...people?sublunar wrote: ↑11 Oct 2017Yep, I had to upgrade to Win 7 in order to use version 8 a while back. Do you burn CDs (and mail them?)?

I am by no means an expert, but could he possibly put it on his thumb drive and transfer it to a laptop thats connected to the internet? Crazy, I know....but just a wild guess.Bobby wrote: ↑11 Oct 2017So how do you get your music from your machine to like...people?sublunar wrote: ↑11 Oct 2017

Yep, I transfer projects and files via my USB drive pretty much on a daily basis unless I haven't made any changes that need transferring. My critical machines basically never touch the internet.kimothebeatmaker wrote: ↑11 Oct 2017I am by no means an expert, but could he possibly put it on his thumb drive and transfer it to a laptop thats connected to the internet? I really don't know what to say to that. I forget this all the time. I am in a bubble when I don't have to save for food as a priority. Making music is not something vital for the rest of the world, it is easy to forget how lucky I am when I share my opinion about the pros and cons of an online subscription model. I enjoy the life I have, not much, but lots of people wish they could have my bubble. My remark wasn't targeting you, just a realization how lucky I am. I apologize if you do not have the problem I have.

Yep, that’s what I was taught in school. Never have your computer hooked up to the net, and always back up your stuff. Do I listen? Lol well........sublunar wrote: ↑11 Oct 2017Yep, I transfer projects and files via my USB drive pretty much on a daily basis unless I haven't made any changes that need transferring. I mean. My laptop is my only computer. I use it for music, a bit of gaming, social stuff, internet, etc. So far...no problems. I usually have like half a dozen tabs open on a second screen while I'm writing haha. So I think the dangers of using the internet on a work computer are somewhat overstated. Plus I don't download anything so there's that too. I just stream off Netflix and check my emails. That's about it.
Gotta interject. The likelihood of your computer getting hacked simply by being connected to a private internet connection is pretty slim. Yes, even on Windows. The idea that a production computer shouldn't be connected to the internet is an ancient idea from back when software was still primarily installed with cds. Nowadays with firewalls and basic antivirus you're only in danger by going to bad sites or being tricked by false email addresses.

So should I redeem my million dollars from a Nigerian prince who is distantly related and left me his fortune? I better jump on thatQVprod wrote: ↑12 Oct 2017Gotta interject. Who’s using the royal plural now baby? 🧂
I don't care what other people do or think. I don't let my production machine touch the internet. Not just for distant threats like hacking and viruses but also buggy updates* that I don't need. There's literally no reason my machine needs to be on the internet. When I'm in my studio working on music, the internet is the last distraction I need. My laptop, however, is on the front lines. I work on the same music projects on it when I'm far from home but I also download updates and whatever else I need on it. My laptop tests everything before it goes back to my main machine. It's all very methodical. I also practice regular offsite backups to an encrypted drive. I'm very careful with my data because I choose to be not because of some "ancient ideas" other people heard from a cousin who knows a guy who works on computers. I'm in IT and I know what I'm doing.QVprod wrote: ↑12 Oct 2017Gotta interject. *I had a Windows update a while back totally screwed up the audio and it was hell getting to the bottom of it. IIRC, it was something in SP3. I wiped and reloaded and stayed with SP2 for the next decade. And that computer is still chugging along now, but now it's my backup/file storage machine.
By all means go get your inheritance :pscratchnsnifff wrote: ↑12 Oct 2017So should I redeem my million dollars from a Nigerian prince who is distantly related and left me his fortune?
