Synapse DR-1 is still my go-to device for a big, lush reverb. Fantastic device.

you made my day, for sure with that one. I usually just use two.
There's no better way around making Pan decisions earlier in the chain.

Every DAW should have a Selig Gain.

Selig Gain should be a Guitar Pedal (Volume, MONO, Pan, Metering (I/O), mutes AND CV:
The MIX-42C spanked me a bit on the importance of PAN - with L/R control:

In order of importance: Combinator ,Dr octorex, Default Synths ,14 Channel mixer, Selig Gain ,Ssl EQ, D- filter, Matrix , FRG comp , DDL- delay, RV7000, Echobode. Those are the main ones I have in all my projects

It really depends if I have a tune in my head like I want to play a piano instrument or I'm after some boogieness groovebox voodoo stuff for instruments alike but the mix section goes down to few basic elements; effects vary a lot.
