Blamsoft and eXode VK-2 Viking Synthesizer Song Challenge
Hello, yeah, this synth sounds incredible. Hope you enjoy my entry.
Yep, it was enjoyable
Started my new entry today. 15 instances of VK2 (mono) + 9 Softube Trident EQs + 2 compressors and a few kHS transient shapers and G8 noise gates are apparently the maximum my i7 can handle. 4-5 bars in Reason, task manager says 20% load (it's lying, due to hyperthreading it's actually more like 40% load). Scrolling the rack causes crackles.
..and I hope everyone does not mind a _little_ bit of chatter in between the entries. The pages easily overload the CPU when each post contains an embedded soundcloud player

This thing is a beast. I had to pretend I was working with hardware and bounce everything to audio. The sound is totally worth the effort though.
God it would be awesome to win all this .______.

I really liked your entry (..you scary big fish, you ). It's really good, I am not kidding. I listened to it twice!

That first 30 seconds is wild! Nice one!Flavolous wrote:Made this with 9 VK2s & called up a couple of V01s to use for modulation, this synth is phenomenally flexible! :
after 30 sec, CPU has gone!! [emoji16]

smart move. at least Reason can't refuse the export in hi quality but for listening purpose you need to put out reverbs and other heavy thingsFlavolous wrote:I was worried about this, I'll have to upload a low cpu version before the deadline!Karim wrote:after 30 sec, CPU has gone!! [emoji16]

My (first) entry:
It's 3 x VK-2 in a combinator with PSQ-1684 for sequencing. No computers were harmed in the process...

Very good synth with beautiful patches, covers a lot of sounds, Blamsoft really pushed the limits.
Great tracks already!

This is fantastic! I know you didn't use the presets, but how did you achive that amazing lead synth sound (or the layers making it)? Too good.raymondh wrote:Here's my entry

Here is my entry. I have no chance - there are already some amazing entries - but it sure was fun to make. Best sounding synth. 15 VK2's, all tweaked from presets. One Kong.
Thanks! Very kind! I mostly started with presets (if only for the inspiration). The presets are so good.ThisIsNotTheMusic wrote:This is fantastic! Then I tweaked them to fit the arrangement and soundscape. The brass lead is an existing patch, just opened the filter a bit to sound more majestic.
There is quite a bit of layering and some new sounds as well, mostly to have some fun with programming the synth and creating rhythmic sounds in 'modular mode'.
I think arrangement can have a really big impact on how a sound is perceived. The quality / feel / impact of a sound may not be what you do to that sound - it might be what you put around the sound. For this track I tried to have contrasting elements to help focus on certain sounds. eg. complement a low sound with a high sound, or complement a fast sequence line with a slow pad, or complement a melodic line with a very static line.
It's a long answer to your question (sorry) but hopefully it is useful

That's great advice. My problem is that I just randomly twiddle and assign things and sometimes it ends up well, others not so. I need to learn a lot more, but it all helps. Thanks again, and keep producing those great sounding tracks!raymondh wrote:Thanks! Very kind! I mostly started with presets (if only for the inspiration).
