Ill answer my own question to you all instead
you might if your still confused as to my question and why i ask read the answer you all obviously over look ed or did not know .
And why i ask if it is fm .........
Enjoy the education i had mentioned before here and else where the is it fm or phase modulation ......

Very interesting. I've never really understood the math, and reading the article I am even more confused!
The narrative that modulating the phase is mathematically equivalent to modulating the frequency is intriguing... although I wouldn't agree that the Casio phase distortion had a similar sound quality to Yamaha's FM (I owned both).

The article references the Yamaha FS1R. There's some really nice FS1R samples in the Jiggery Pokery Retrospective refill.

I have them all, but really go for PX7 9 times out of 10 because of the brightness control, it makes FM cool again. Its like FM's version of a filter cutoff.

FM4 because its easy to work with, and it's the one on the list I actually own.

Does anybody know if the feedback knob on FM4 does a similar thing to PX7's brightness knob. Sounds like it does!

The feedback knob is different, it adjusts the feedback on the feedback operator. You know, PX7 has a feedback knob as well.

The feedback knob is different, it adjusts the feedback on the feedback operator. You know, PX7 has a feedback knob as well.
You're right it does. Slightly different operating range but yeah same thing.

My fav is FM4. especially dirty sound, I like. and I also like subtractor's FM.
