Just out of curiosity, of all the synths currently available for Reason (both stock devices and REs), what synth would you consider as:
1) the best subtractive synth;
2) the best additive synth;
3) the best FM synth;
4) the best synth that doesn't fall into any of those categories?
Your favorite synth by synth category?

4) Malström
I don't know if Malström qualifies for 4 really but it's been a long time favorite for me for doing evolving pads. I haven't really come across another synth that allows me to create these seemingly always moving pads with the same ease as Malström. A true gem that is irreplaceable for me.
I know it's a debated topic but I personally prefer synths with built in FX. I like being able to sculpt as much as possible within a patch and not having to resort to the Combinator. From my perspective it's better to include FX and let the user disable them than to exclude them completely.

And an honorable mention to: Predator-RE
Revival should also have an honorable mention. That thing is sick.
Yep Revival is awesome. I spent a long time just using the organ presets, with programming in the Too Hard basket. But it's actually quite easy to get your head around, if a little fiddly. Well worth the effort spent with the manual, it's a goldmine of sounds

Don't have Parsec. I like Malstrom and Thor a lot, and I feel like you can make additive synthesis or whatever the hell synthesis you can think of with combinations of Subtractor and Malstrom, but the Rob Papen stuff really changed Reason for me. I love FM4 as well; I like PX7, but FM4 is just way easier to dial. For me, Primal Audio/Synapse/RP have given Reason all the sounds I missed from Komplete.

I love Zero but I find it a bit intimidating still. Maybe I need to get better at it, but for quick and dirty FM, FM4 is great. Also Thor shouldn't be overlooked as you can do some great FM with that using just about any kind of waveform, or even external audio in!
