Both are looking good in the shop at the moment but I have to choose between one or the other. Thoughts anyone. I already have Parsec and PX7 which come up as 'similar products' to Antidote in the shop.

They're the 2 best synths in Reason to me. I have them and use them both always. I would recommend Antidote 1 and Predator 1a though.

What kind of stuff do you do?

Antidote is my favorite software synth ever. It sounds fantastic and it's extremely easy to use/program. I'd recommend it over Predator for ease of use, if you're more into classic analog-y synth sounds... warm pads, arps, basses, plucks, etc. Overall it sounds warmer, forward and more... "classic" to me.

If you'd into more edgy, modern stuff and limitless potential, I'd say go with Predator. It's super powerful, but not as effortless. It sounds very good, just doesn't feel as immediate.

Just my take on it.

I'd get Antidote first. It's easy to get fooled by it's seemingly simple approach. You can get a lot of timbres out of it thanks to the various wavetables.

I don't know what kind of music you make, but to illustrate with an example. All the sounds (with exception for drums) in this showcase are made with Antidote. I've used Pulveriser on the bass and lead bus on the final portion of the showcase, everything else is Antidote's internal FX. There is also some MClass mastering going on.

Predator is great. It's very very SAMEY though. If you are going to bilk that sound till there isn't an ounce of blood left, groovy. If not, consider the other.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my request. It looks like Antidote gets the most positive feedback. Exode, I loved your example track. Rook, the kind of music that I like to do spans a range from Jean-Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream through to Boards of Canada. I also help my son out by recording and mixing his Guitar and Vocal compositions which are more jazz/rock based music. I will be getting Antidote. Again, thank you all for your very useful comments. JerrelTheKing and Gak, I'm getting very close to wanting to shell out for Predator anyway after your feedback :)

If you like to make drops and preview patches, Antidote is a nightmare.
They have placed PB Range on the back, which means you cannot lock it
with automation. So if you are on R7 and want to make an octave drop
up and down:

Click browse, chose patch, close browser, flip rack, click PB Range UP
and scroll to 12 and click, click PB Range Down and scroll to 12 and click.
Flip rack. Do this all over again for every patch you want to try for your
drop.

Insane...

Antidote for ease of programming and the inbuilt effects, Predator for those amazing filters.
I have embraced Allihoopa. Come listen and play with my crap Figure loops here:

They really are crap.

Best of both worlds with these 2 synths.
