If you could only use 3 REs, which ones would you choose?

If you could only use 3 REs, which ones would you choose?
And why?

My 3 would be:

Carve EQ Ducker. I use it on almost every track. It's just a great alternative for regular EQ. I find it's best used with some subtlety though. It's very easy to overdo it.

Softube Saturation Knob. I love how it can do everything from very subtle distortion to really hard distortion. I use it on drums and bass sounds all the time.

Audiomatic. I use it mostly to get a warmer sound (tape, vinyl) whenever a synth sounds too digital. I find many of the other settings are useful too, both the more normal ones but also the weirder more creative ones.

Interesting that two of these were for free. The only thing I've payed for here is Carve and I got that for 19 euros. Cheap list :)

Carve, Leveler, and Synchronous. Carve because I'm shit at eq (or too impatient to get it right). Leveler because it improves my vocals a ton. Synchronous because it makes me feel like a wizard whenever I want variations in an instrumental part as a song progresses or on breaks, etc.

Cool thread: Mine would be 1) Buffre - for tons of ways to glitch things out 2) Polar - for more buffer looping and audio freezing / pitch-shifting effects 3) Synchronous - another fun glitch machine + tons of other users.

Tough chices because there's some great competitors for these but after some thought:

Selig Leveler - nothing else in Reason can do what this does
Antidote - it really is a good allrounder and sounds great
MP5 EQ - it really is an excellent master eq and for other uses but mainly because of how it treats the low and high end

1. Antidote because it is just awesome!
2. Echobode because it is so damn versatile.
3. Ozone Maximizer because it makes things go to 11 with no distortion.
I have embraced Allihoopa. Come listen and play with my crap Figure loops here:

They really are crap.

If the choice is limited to three, then I'm going for maximum versatility. So:

Zero synth
C1-L1 compressor
Shape LFO editor

God damn it, now I don't have room for Selig Gain. Or ReVolt. Or CV Suite Line Processor. Or Etch Red. Or Chenille. Or PMS-20, Runciter or AF-4 filters. Or GQ-7.

Wow, this thread took off fast. Nice. I thought this would be a great way to see which REs are really worth looking into and really worth their price. Of course what's most useful is gonna be different for everyone but still, interesting to see.

I agree with many that Antidote is a great RE. Just to get that reverb alone is worth half the price imo.

1. KHS One - wonderful warm sound
2. Onyx Tube Limiter - great limiter and very versatile
3. GSX Graphic Shaper - have this for a few days now And I use it almost in every track, esp. good for drums

- Echobode - a swiss army knife of yum
- Onyx Limiter - lives on my mixes and adds more yum
- Titus - sounds great and I prefer it to The Echo

Third spot was a hard one as I use a few other things regularly like Kron, CV Mutant, Pulsar, Parsec... But you did say we had to choose.

OK then I have the same 3 as you except I'd substitute Onyx for Parsec. Hooray, at last a synth that even I can get good sounds out of.

Echobode is the king of mad modulation.

Titus as well I'm extremely fond of despite it being the little brother of Steerpike it's my goto delay device because of it's great sound and flexibility.

However my very best friend of all RE's is still Groovy Melon's Morfin X-Fade which deserves a special mention because it's free, so useful and well-implemented. I hope I'm excused for mentioning it in addition to my top 3 paid RE's.

But presumably you're using it in beta. I'm hanging out for that thing to appear, any idea how long?

2. Zero (PunchBD is what I should choose, but Zero is too awesome)
3. Carve

Sorry for messing with you. Dev is really taking care to get Kron as usable as possible. Sure many will freak out over the trillion knobs etc but Kron really is a major device for anyone wanting CV modulation. The fact I am still reaching for it after I made all my patches says a lot. Anyway this isn't an advert thread so back to what people are loving...

Predator - most versatile synth RE and a ton of patches
Echobode - Delay and great modulation
Tubetech - I don't even own it but I need both EQ and comp for the final slot :)

Steerpike - fantastically versatile delay. Covers every base from subtle transparency to extreme psychedelic weirdness.
Step Note Recorder - an incredibly useful compositional tool.
... and either Revival or Antidote as a sound source.

Too bad it's only 3 and it's only RE...my fourth option would have been a Delay..but haven't found a delay RE that I like other then The Echo ! If so my fourth choices would have been The Echo.
My opinion is that Propellerhead REASON needs a complete rewrite!
P.S: people should stop saying "No it won't happen" when referring to a complete rewrite of REASON. I have 3 letters for ya....VST
