Oh, it should be noted that this MS-34 chip made up half of the sound channels of the Mega Drive. So for the full sound, you'll need it along with the MD-38 (working name), and maybe I'll have one other little thing to help tie everything together.

That seems interesting, and I do love me some wavetables.

I do plan on making is easy to convert the patches from Konami's VRC7 (Yamaha YM2413) to work on the MD-38 (I'll likely include the built-in patches with the device).

Oh Nice!!!!! So the YM2612 supported everything in the YM2413?

If you do look at doing the SCC at some point, if it's not too much CPU use, please also include the original 3 square waves from the PSG on the MSX. The SCC was added to the cartridges, so the sound designers had both the PSG and SCC to work with.

My favorite game soundtrack of all time on the megadrive/genesis and damn Yuzo Koshiro was freaking genius!!!

Pretty much every Yamaha FM chip is a superset of the previous. But I'm going to make sure it's easy to convert YM2413 patches, because the Sega Mark III used that chip in Japan, along with the SN76489. In the Americas and Europe the Master System only got the latter.

The MSX used the AY-3-8910 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_I ... _AY-3-8910, and that page says, "It produced very similar results to the Texas Instruments SN76489 and was on the market for a similar period." That's what the MS-34 is, plus it has noise.

Alright then, I can just use the MS-34 along with the SCC (if you decide to do it, not trying to pressure you btw) to get the full effect.

Yep, just like using the MS-34 along with the MD-38 to get the full Mega Drive effect.
