Hey,
What are the best instrument REs for Trance Music? I currently have Predator, Antidote, Quad, Vectro, and FM4 as far as instruments go. Any other recommendations in the shop? Will there be REs coming out soon, within the next 3 months, that will be much more geared toward super saw plucks and leads?
Thanks for your comments

There's always going to be some shiny new toy to play with, but you've already got more than enough suitable tools for the job. My advice is to save your money and go write some music, and explore the tools you already have!

Yeah, I kinda have hit a road block with writing music. I just finished up a couple of tracks and want to start new ideas but need to get some good inspiration XP. Thanks for the recommendations, I haven't played around with Vectro that much. I'm curious about the new DNA lab RE and if it would be worth getting sometime in the near future. I have also heard that kilohearts one might be worth getting. Saving money is always a good idea.
I'm stuck now i must admit.. was all over vecto at the intro price but I see it's expired and it's now the same price as Oberon which has a really awesome low end. I'm hoping to hear back from the Oberon dev that more patches are planned, or expansions though before shelling out that kind of coin. The new DNA one is hard to judge so far as the only demos thus far are very similar sounding trap demos (and even his other demos for his other products use near identical sounds playing a near identical kind of song). I guess we will know upon release. I did notice it doesn't have an arp or pattern gate though which already gives it a disadvantage vs nexus. So hopefully the sounds themselves will be really good. The [V]erge! wrote:Yeah, I kinda have hit a road block with writing music. I also hope layers that make sounds up can be edited and switched on or off, that would be a biggie for me.
The kilohearts one is a very nice synth but be aware that it currently requires the most cpu resources of any instrument RE in the shop.. so if you plan on using more than one instance alongside other stuff too, make sure you are dealing with a 3.5ghz+_ desktop processor.
I know what you mean about new sounds giving new inspiration when you are at a road block.. but i started thinking that was the easy way out when it happened to me and talked myself into finding new life out of my current gear.. I did this by learning the factory synths (thor in particular) at a level i hadn't before (not sure what your programming experience with Thor is, but it doesn't have to be Thor is what I mean, it can be anything you have). Suddenly I found I was able to get inspired from creating new sounds of my own, by learning to program it. Eventually I would like to even release some free patches for it, which is something I have never done for a synth (i have never done fresh sound design before, only tweaked presets).
So i reckon, try this first.. pick a factory synth or RE, any of them, that you feel either has poor presets or you feel you have never taken the time to explore on a more intimate level. Work out what everything does and how it interacts with other elements of the synth, sit in front of a keyboard and get lost in creation of totally original sounds. If you have already mastered everything you have and really just are bored of them, please excuse and ignore my post, and go buy something
I realize this is no answer to the OP, but I agree with Theo.
Thor is an incredibly versatile synth and comparatively easy to program. And it is also capable of delivering that trancey sound you're looking for. Try using the multi osc and use the true stereo synthesis method shown on the back of Thor to get that wide stereo image. Also don't forget the combinator to combine synths and FX.
Here's another trance thing: gated Pads or Leads. Split your HiHat signal and put it in the sidechain input of your pad/lead. Now turn on the gate on the pad/lead's mixer channel, so that there's only sound coming through, when you play the hihats, and adjust to taste. Add a bit of Reverb and delay and trance away.

Thor is fun! (fanboy mode activate lol) I dug up a combi patch I made with thor and sloppily played a trancey riff for an example (blushes)Gaja wrote:I realize this is no answer to the OP, but I agree with Theo.

Hi,
You have two essential synths, Antidote and Predator, for trance. With combination with Thor it is very powerful setup for any edm. If you you are still looking for fat sounds, then ReDominator and Tres (be aware it is a mono synth) can generate very aggressive old skool sounds.
Try to check out Vengence Thor refill to learn what this synth is capable of in hands of skillful sound designer.
Nektar Panorama P4, Many of REs and couple of refills...

You have more than enough synths to create trance. For inspiration maybe look to patches, not synths. I'd suggest either going back through the presets in all your synths or buying some refills - I know there are some wonderful refills for Antidote. There are also some fantastic refills for trance using stock devices by Kevin Sunray (epic refill), Exode, and Robert Todd, some totally free. Just in the last two months members of this board have posted insanely generous free refills using stock devices (Thors Hammer) and samples (XSYnth OSC).
But yeah, Mixfood Orange is very cool, super creative patches.
I'd also consider that you're using G.A.S. to avoid writing, which is work. I know I do that. Force yourself to finish an idea, using presets if you have to. Just work all the way through it and finish it. Gear's not your problem.
