Not shure by them sound cloud demos I`m convinced at all.
Here`s a zip containing my novation drum station rack demo on it.
I only recorded it into reason from its headphone jack out too.
There is no compression no limiting nothing just plain vanilla recorded in and bounced out at 44.1 24bit.
But I think the later part around 40 seconds in the novation demo is where I feel the bass in the re`s is not dropping low like this can and the 909 and definitely the 808 could.

My opinion is that Propellerhead REASON needs a complete rewrite!
P.S: people should stop saying "No it won't happen" when referring to a complete rewrite of REASON. I have 3 letters for ya....VST

I'm not sure comparing a real 808 to a Drumstation or other different synth is fair. In my experience real 808's were not very bassy at all - at least till you hit the EQ. I had a 606 that was super weedy. I look forward to having an 808 that sounds like an 808 instead of a processed sample.

All Units are clones.. Be sure to compare!!Benedict wrote:I'm not sure comparing a real 808 to a Drumstation or other different synth is fair. The Marketing speaks: 808/909 Sounds..
And do not do some Processing with EQ or Compressor! Just compare the raw and clean Sound..
The Joke Boxes are dull and thin.. Sorry..
And a lot of other RE also..
Thin plastic MP3 sound!

I think they sound okay. Certainly the 909 is fit for purpose. The 808 sounds like an 808 with particular settings, but without tone/snap/decay controls it'll be hard to make it sound really crisp. Unless it will have those settings. Who knows! I wouldn't describe the sound as "mp3" though.

I was lucky to have all three real units at my disposal when I first bought my drum station rack and it was very very close to the real thing.Benedict wrote:I'm not sure comparing a real 808 to a Drumstation or other different synth is fair. I didn't have to bother buying in the units I had at hand of my friend who offered them to me at the time for peanuts (45 quid each he no longer had use for them I wanted something easy and to take up less space and fit into the rack) I all ready had a 606 and decided to keep the 606 and buy the novation rack instead when they were brand new out at the time.
I only sold my 606 a couple of years ago as it goes . However I did keep and have still got my roland r5 and use it as my drum pad for kong. I would say compairing a claim to be an emulation to the real thing a very important one to take into the equation as it should be a precise emulation including the deeper bass that I know the 909 and definitely the 808 had. And even though people say the sound cloud demos are mp3 well I`m shure also the demo on sound cloud they have is not just the unit alone I presume they had processed it in some way limited or compressed etc. My example was a direct record from a headphone out jack nothing processed at all anywhere.
