So I tried to make Antidote do FM-Sounds the other day. I took two Antidotes in a combinator, converted the Audio out of the second one to CV using thors matrix and sent that CV to the first Antidote to modulate Oscillator Pitch with it. But it doesn't sound the way it should, very noisy. In theory this should work, right? Anybody knows why it doesn't?
Goan doesn't do Goa, he likes samples, weirdness, beats

Try to compare this with doing the same thing within thor. When you do FM in most FM synths, its actually phase modulation. In Thor you can choose between modulating pitch or phase of the oscillator and it sounds quite different there as well.

I know what pitch fm should sound like, but via cv it doesn't seem to work properly...

Note that CV is 1/64th of the audio rate, so any FM, or any fast modulation for that matter, will start to sound crappy above 689,0625 Hz if you're working at 44.1.

You can raise this frequency limit by working at a higher samplerate.

I've had successful results with FM modulation via CV from LittleLFO to Ivoks' filter for example. Great for a dirty sound.

It's too bad Antidote doesn't have any internal FM. It's modulation matrix is one of it's few weak spots in general - I wish it was more like Thor in that regard.

well that explains what I hear, good to know. gotta try ivoks + littleLFO, sounds interesting!

Regarding Antidote and FM, because Antidote uses a bank of oscillators, and just not two simple oscillators, it's quite difficult to implement inter-oscillator modulation such as FM and get anything else than cacophony.

Yeah that makes sense. And there's enough FM-ish wavetables available.

But the mod matrix could still use improvement ;)
