A ROM based synthesizer is still a synthesizer, no-one ever calls the Korg Wavestation a ROMpler, it's still called a synth
You must understand as developer what do marketing last 15 years with SYNTH building sphere.. Marketing damage big ideas in this sphere... Every synth building company 15 years ago and today for better sell hardware not create better synthes schemes for masses, but use old mechanism for sell! You can look re-incornations, rebrendings from big-named brands..JiggeryPokery wrote:A ROM based synthesizer is still a synthesizer, no-one ever calls the Korg Wavestation a ROMpler, it's still called a synth
All synth-building era from 1990 to today - is loop in hardware synthesizer creation.
Very small part - really create progressive hardware products.
Korg Wavestation people called workstation! Not synthesizer.
But Korg named it vector-syntheszier... Its marketing, You must understand it.
And we can find big quantity of Synthesizer-xxxx. But its hybrid products.
Not agree with you that all musicians calls Wavestation - synth. One name it synth, second musician - call it workstation. Its more tipically.
People called it more workstations, then synthesizers. Because we can open box and seen under cover all used elements. ROMs and synthes.. Mmm.. =) No matter how to call it, marketologs create right names for sell. But we cam understand what product can do and can named it realistically in other way.
So, workstations in 1990-2005 in masses - worked with ROMS, has own sequencer and other characterly things.
Wavestation have ROMs. This fact and nature of using sounds from roms can help named this type of devices - romplers... No matter how deepest scheme of device, that based on samples. Its use samples anyway
I repeat. No matter how we named it. Rompler or sample-based synthesizer, workstation (for hardware variants with sequncer).. Its all using samples.
Its all have in device logic scheme: samples -> lfo / mix / filters / fx/..
Synthesizer - more deeply thing, where no samples create base. Into thrue synths signals generated by analog elements, or digital virtualization with DSP chips.
Thrue synths analog / virtual analog and any kinds of there variations and hybrids.
Wavetable synthesizers and other using samples - its very far type of synthez sound.
I understand, that you can think - he fooled me now)))
But we love hardware very much and talk about sample-based devices as natural synths with own sample-based elements - we think its only marketing ways.
Yes, we know big quantity of great hardware "Synths". But understand what from them is really synth - and what from them sample-based hybrids =)
About IDT: where we can find exclude SineOSC generate-elements? And its can be called synthesizer (where synthez sounds)?
OK =) We not need create polemic on this theme and find what synths really synths in hardware/software world... =)
We talk about IDT - sample-based devices.
If we start, we like named our Meteora - synth (sample-based synth). We think named it small wavetable (with more instrument lines with selection of waveforms).
But our logic and our musician-friends understand that sample-based synthesizer - fun thing. Better named it ROMpler..
So - sample-based synth. May be its normal classification. We all can named it as we want =) No problem.
But - sample library (rom) + lfo / filters / FX into box - its ideal scheme of romplers =)
So, we not really ned to discuss how right named it. Its freely sphere.
Meteora - its sample-based synth =) Or rompler. Its really not change anything.
I agree that nearly all modern synthesizers use samples stored in ROM to generate sounds. But the "workstation" name was more applied to keyboards with built-in sequencers. People would call the keyboard version of a synth a workstation. But not the rack mount device that contained the same synth engine, but lacked a sequencer. Though we're on the same page for the rest of what you said.
Yes) If we look on modern software synths and hardware, they can use samples on base signal. Time going on and something changes.
May be now time to forget use synth samples or not. But in this way we must remember classic analog synthesizers & virtual analogs that not used samples and understand - they have various schemes. And may be "sampler-based synth" is normal type, as sample-based romper..
PS: If anybody use real hardware ROMplers, they can remember that few Romplers not based only on ROM samples. Few old Romplers used their own generators of waveforms, that not coming from samples.
So, what I can say - Romplers as Synthesizers - can be based on Samples or on Generators. But if said Romplers - people in masses understand ROMs with samples, and Synths as device has signal-generators.
Today people forgot Romplers. Young people know them only as modern software big-libraries. And may be not know that Romplers 15 years ago can haven't samples in ROMs and use ROMs as addition elements as option and based on signal-generate algorithms...

Hi.
Soon we update Meteora:
- troubles: END-FILTER - adecvate work of Any types of filter (in 1.0.1 work only LP24)
- corrected AMP ADSR work - find some bugs there..
- corrected SineOSC Mix knob and LFO elements
- Pitch-band work only for base-signal in 1.0.1, for instrum lines - it work too in next update
- much more bugfixes, small GUI changes
now we work on few bugs, and soon update coming to PropShop

Nice one. Very special if you play the Synth Tunes with Drumtunes mixed in.

Can you give the Sub bass an Octave selection ? Rather than using the Global Octave ' which means the Synth layer's drop down too ' It really needs it !!!!! :s0403: lolturn2on wrote:Theo.M - thank You for your opinion.
But we understand what is rompler.
Our 40 patches in first release - only for start. You must understand that device can much more! :s0511:
Now we concentrate work on patches (its now task #1 for us) and about a week have plan to release 1.0.2 update with CPU/RAM using optimization. After it add new patches in every update releases.
Majestik Monkey - ok =) its good idea. We include octave for lines in coming serious Upgrade to 1.5 version.
Guys, if You have some ideas for Meteora, please write it to us, or there. We try include it.
Now we hard work on 1.5 upgrade, but already create 1.0.2 update with some bug fixes, and wait it for approve in PropShop..

Update 1.0.2 in PropShop
Now update in PropShop
Its important update for stable work with device
Update 1.0.2 contain:

Its important update for stable work with device
Update 1.0.2 contain:
- better DSP level (optimization of RAM and CPU work);
- Fixed a bug with Resonance knob (End Filter) in LP24/BP6/HP12 modes;
- visual text corrections on the front and rear panels;
- change LFO Waveform knob to more informative Display with slide-effect;
- AMP and Filter ADSR settings open correct from saved patch
With next update we add new patches!

Can anyone confirm that the TB Module doesnt hold notes forever. Meaning if you trigger a note and hold it it will eventually turn off (like 45 seconds or so).
Yes, TB line contain samples around 45-sec and we not lopped it.
We can lopped it in future update, if its really needed!....

We send to approve new version of Meteora.
More flexible device.. bigger size in Rack with more control knobs.
We add Pitchbend and Modwheel. Add LFO and Sine OSC to every instrument line.
Mix knobs for effects. Plus other functions.
New version - 1.1. But its not all...
Now we work on newer version with some additions, corrections and optimization.
