New extension from DLD - chose the layout!
The latest DLD RE is just going through final testing, and one of the beta testers has suggested a layout change.. Rather than ignoring the request like normal, I've decided to put it to the vote.
Here is the current version:
And here is the mock up of the suggested changes:
Let me know your thoughts on the design only. I'll share more details when it's closer to release.
Make your choice using the poll - I'll go with the most votes.
Thanks!
Rich @ DLD

Megasaur Supersaw synth now released Follow @DLDTechnology for new stuff!
I'm not defending the L/R signal display, but I prefer the first one of several reasons.
Speaker position in the center of the device. Because my eyes want to look at that main display, not staring at a couple of knobs that look all the same.
If a control should have a wheel, Elevation is the one. I like it.

I too like the first one. I like the screen centered.

LOL, it's hard to decide without knowing what the thing does . Depending on the name I guess a convolution reverb ??
Personally I prefer the design of the upper one, 'cause the display is centered. I also like the mod wheel (does this mean that sounds can be elevated ?) . But I wonder what these - presumably - analyser displays to the left and right are doing?? We've already a pretty good analyser in Reason, so why waste CPU power for a low resolution one??

The first one is better imo.
Looks like an awesome RE! I assume it's some sort of sound-location placement effect? Does it do Doppler shift too?
A Doppler RE is something I'm still wanting

I like the original better

First one, but without knowing what it does, it's hard to be objective.
The only thing I would suggest is maybe selecting some different knobs...? Just to differentiate from the ST-1, since it also has a similar meter and the same knobs...
If meters don't provide important information for the function skip them.
I guess, all knobs in a row will need less mouse movements, so I voted for 2nd mockup.
I would find it even better, if screnn were on left side, then the zoom fader and then the row of knobs.
But without knowing the purpose of the device and the knobs, thats kind of intuitive...

I like the simplicity of the 2nd one as well as the symmetry. The rotaries are spaced better and the thing just looks less clustered as a whole. I also prefer the centered patch window. I really do like the meters on the top one though, but it does look like everything has been squeezed in and I think the elevation would be better off being replaced with a matching fader type like the zoom.
The more I look at it, the more the top one screams 'show off...look at all my buttons and lights, but I feel messy', where as the bottom one speaks, sense, organisation and job done.
Final verdict, the bottom one for me.
Mart.

I like the first one. I do agree with the other comments that you may consider placing the left and right displays closer to the middle. Gives the eyes less travel time when comparing. Otherwise I love it the way it is

save yourself the time and go with the first one..I like the way it looks better than the 2nd guy, but without using the thing my opinion is only worth so much.
Second with the upper described modifications: modwheel>display>zoom> knobs and if you feel like the displays. If They are not very important ditch them.Joerg wrote:If meters don't provide important information for the function skip them.

First. Also, I prefer the left and right meters along with it, too.

I'm inclined to agree with most here. First is sexier. Second just looks a bit blander. Maybe the second is more functional (I don't know) but this doesn't look like a super complex device to learn so I'd say either one would be not too difficult to master.

Awesome device. I like the original also. Would like to see a fader on the elevation parameter rather than a mod wheel.
Good luck.
Good luck.
