Only by connecting cables to send and receive 'CV signals'. But CV levels can change hundreds of times per second and thus transmit fairly complex encoded messages...eauhm wrote: Good one, and an interesting suggestion. In the vst world, for full functionality, multiple instances are talking to each other. Don't think re's can do that currently.
The Rack Extensions of your dreams?
Yeah I know about "CV".. Also that it "only" goes at 1/64th of the sample rate.. Of course it's possible to send fairly complex signals over CV, but do you really think CV is a good way to do IPC? Like accessing shared memory n such?

My opinion is that Propellerhead REASON needs a complete rewrite!
P.S: people should stop saying "No it won't happen" when referring to a complete rewrite of REASON. I have 3 letters for ya....VST

I suppose they could potentially use audio cables for it, though it's a bit of a gross solution.eauhm wrote:Yeah I know about "CV".. Also that it "only" goes at 1/64th of the sample rate.. Ofcourse. Wouldn't want to accidentally wire that into mix channel thoughesselfortium wrote:I suppose they could potentially use audio cables for it, though it's a bit of a gross solution.eauhm wrote:Yeah I know about "CV".. Reaktor 6 - I am impressed. And Blocks look just like RE's, but modular size chunk RE's instead of 1U, full width minimum size. And instead of the separate window for cabling & connecting things you would just hit TAB like we have been doing in Reason since year dot! In fact Reaktor 6 Blocks look like they would be better in the Reason Rack than they are in Reaktor 6! Native Instruments Reaktor 6 Blocks as RE's? My dream Rack Extension(s).

- Roland JX-8P (so I can sell my hardware )
- Roland Juno 106
- Roland Juno 60
- Roland Jupiter 8 (have you seen what these beasts sell for on ebay?)
- Yamaha CS-80
- Oberheim OBX-A
- Moog Memorymoog
- Elka Synthex
I'd rather see individual emulations that was close to the original in look and feel (not just sound), rather than something like DIVA that sounds great, but doesn't make you feel like you're experience a real super-synth of yesteryear. (virtual reality!)
Very nice!! Had to leave that up on screen for a while!!!

^ I would love to see Permut 8 become a Rack Extension!! 1) Back on topic my dream Rack Extension would be Malstrom v2. The ability to import grain tables or make tables from samples, just more flexibility and more CV options on the back (instead of having to chose between what oscillator to manipulate A/B). 2) Something like Native Instruments Scanner XT. 3) Weird synths with weird visual interfaces that make weird sounds. 4) More modular type stuff along the lines of Ochen K's A-Series 5) In a nutshell I want more weird things that aren't rehashes of the same old same old!
A mini ableton live and a mini 4/8 channel tracker with cv output would be nice.

I'm actually downright pissed that Props haven't worked the SDK out to a state where Sonic Charge can do Permut8 as a Rack Extension. The thing was practically frigg'n designed from the ground up to be an RE! I mean seriously, man.
