In Enlightenspeed's MeloDramatik Rack Extension, the per-step Passthrough buttons today decide whether to pass the incoming notes through the algorithm for each step or not.

It would enhance the device's creative potential if these could be set as a per-step probability, between 0% - 100% instead of just on/off.

Thoughts?

All scripting and coding done.
2 legacy issues I should deal with before releasing, but they shouldn’t take long to do, hopefully get this submitted tomorrow night, and then it’s up to RS for how long before it’s with you.

Cheers,
B

Wow, that is awesome news, Brian! Thank you so much for adding this, and so quickly, to boot! ♥️
This will allow us to dial in a certain amount of desired variability in the processed note sequence output. I look forward to giving it a spin after it lands, and I hope that other MeloDramatik users will find good uses for this enhancement as well.

Hey Brian,

That is awesome, thank you so much for adding this! And for fixing that hilarious typo ;-)

Some feedback on the Mute and Pass lane probability setting mechanism:

On my Mac mini, I can click-drag with my mouse cursor inside one of the Pass or Mute sequencer step squares, and change the probability that way, as expected.
However, while this works for Mute squares with "Draw X Axis" being either off or on, it ONLY works for Pass squares with "Draw X Axis" on.

On my MacBook Air with trackpad, I am unable to set any intermediate probability values at all by click-dragging - doing that just toggles the square off or on.

This is with the stable Reason 13.1d330.

Cheers,
Jos

Thanks for the fixes, Brian!

MeloDramatik is one of my favorite creative players. It's a bit like a real-time version of Pattern Mutator, but it gives you more control over the result. While there is a Global mode for selecting the mutation algorithm, the built-in step sequencer lets you pick the algorithm for each step, and running the sequencer at different speeds yields different results. The newly added probability feature allows one to set a mutation and/or mute probability for each step, which is a way to create even more (subtle) melodic variations. Another thing I love about it is the ability to modulate the note filters with a very slow LFO (I have been using the free 4 Phase LFO for this). This is producing some results that I like a lot. I feel I have just scratched the surface of what this player can do.

Here's a link to a short (1m16s) MP3 file I just recorded, sending a short Sequences sequence through MeloDramatik on to Europa with some effects. You hear the plain sequence first, followed by some mutated bars; the difference between the two is (melo)dramatik!
