Where are the various samples kept that are in the patches?

Elsewhere, where the samples originate from. It can be song samples, refill samples, audio files on disk. The patch stores a reference to the location.
Most of the time;
Factory Sound Bank > Other Samples (i think, not at my desk at the moment)
Factory Sound Bank > Music Loops > Fixed Tempo
They can also come from;
Factory Sound Bank > Kong Drum Sampler > EFX
Factory Sound Bank > NNXT Advanced Sampler > Impacts + EFX
Factory Sound Bank > Other Samples (i think, not at my desk at the moment)
Factory Sound Bank > Music Loops > Fixed Tempo

Factory Sound Bank > Kong Drum Sampler > EFX
Factory Sound Bank > NNXT Advanced Sampler > Impacts + EFX

So then, for a given preset in the stock Grain install, there is an underlying wav file and it is stored where the samples are kept?
I'm sure I'm not being as clear as I'd like, but I know I can drop a sample in and start with that from basically anywhere, but the samples that drive the various provided presets is what I am curious about.

Not just from the folders mentioned before (they are random sounds (fx based stuff)) but they can also just come from any regular sound you'd find in the sample based devices (kong, redrum, nnxt, nn19) or a single part of a rex loop (dr octo rex).
Places like: "Orkester Sounds -> category -> instrument -> playstyle" (e.g Trilling Oboe C5)
