Under the circumstances, I don't see any reason why I would need high-res on my machine. However, I see disadvantages from it and they are not very pleasant.
Why not be able to install a RS with hi-res disabled?

I don't like extra blur, lags and space on SDD. Despite the fact that I don’t see any advantages from hi-res at all.

My 22" screen never gave me a reason to want bigger devices

I agree. For the 100% zoom setting the feature is pretty much a downgrade. AS the previous assets were fine-tuned for optimal sharpness and now are just the result of automatic interpolation/downsampling from the hi-res assets. including the old assets into the REs and Reason to use for the 100% zoom setting would have been better imho.
